and I'm completely and totally floored!! Seriously? 7.7?

I was thinking perhaps a 6...

Don't get me wrong -- I like it a lot. But then again, I love books. This would be my dream -- floor to ceiling books! Perhaps that's why it's getting such a high vote. Did I touch an emotional chord? I figured the people who voted it high loved books as much as I do. My husband thinks that it's something else -- that the child is overwhelmed and wondering how in the world to find the information and that's why it's scoring high.

The funny thing is that people are thinking that this is a pro-SOPA shot.

It isn't.

Not at all.

I was just thinking through the consequences. Both my children research primarily on the web. It's extremely rare that they'd want to go to the library for research. They both like the library, it's just that the web is so much easier.

So this is a consequence. I wasn't seeing it as a positive or a negative -- just a consequence.

I think people are seeing this as a positive consequence (and thinking it's pro-SOPA), because libraries are wonderful places.

Personally, I see it as a negative consequence because it means even more shuttling! Driving to the library every other day for homework (or buying a quickly outdated set of encyclopedias) just doesn't do it for me.

Down with SOPA! :)

[Feb. 1st, 2012 12:36:12 PM]

One day and 12 hours left, and it's still at a 7.65.

All I can say is... wow... This feels so incredibly surreal.

There's even a prospect of a PB here, thought usually high photos end up getting scrubbed down. But it's still a possibility!

wow...

If you're wondering, the original only had 7 shelves, and only a very small section horizontally (about the width of my son x4) The biggest issue was when I cloned the shelves, there were too many patterns showing up. So many of the books are backwards. I'd copy and paste an area, but the flip it around so the pattern went the other way. Then I'd go and clone little sections of books over other little sections of books to try to eliminate even more patterns. I probably should have continued even more, but it was taking so long, and I was doing it last minute.

Btw, after taking about 19 shots (half of which to figure out lighting and angles), the library told me I wasn't allowed to photograph inside the library building. So that was the end of shooting.
-------------------

Whoa!! Many sopa's not a bad thing if it leads to a PB! :P

down with sopa! (now that the challenge is over) down with sopa!

Hey, I just realized you knocked me out of the top spot for the Canon 10-22 with this! And I've had that since 2006 (I stopped using Canon in 2008 or so)! Boy am I mad at you!!!! But congrats on that anyway ;)

I was unsure about the message you were conveying. It seemed pro SOPA but at the same time it was surely pro books (and I'm a great books lover). In any case this view is amazing, I'm lost inside this image. It would be great for a book cover (except for the lanscape orientation ^_^). Congrats :)

OH my the Libary said you couldn't shoot inside of it?? Wow kinda restricing your rights, hummm isn't that a sopa thing? I loved it in fact I smell the lovely scent of old books in an old libary! Nice job! and I didn't think it was pro sopa, but did make me think of the days and days of sitting in the libary's doing research for a paper! Do NOT miss that LOL

I don't care that this is a clone-stamped wall of books.. I like the idea and execution. My #2 choice for the challenge.

It's a killer image, and while I certainly agree with you on some level, disabling a vehicle of information isn't doing us any favors. We could also burn those books so kids might actually engage more with their parents and community.

An alternative view :)
I wonder if the feeling of endless bookshelf is not a bit constrained by the vignette, but I guess that was the intention.

excellent, wow, great photo this is my 4th 10 in 7 months on dpc, i love the almost wave like pattern of light book in the centre, im guessing there are 7 repeats of teh shelves, fantastic use of expert editing really works.is he stood on sand or dirt as well? like a distopian end to society with a wall of knowledge.

Wow... Great shot and you know what.. Im actually for the idea of kids spending time at the library/in books..:) 8 for the photo but the idea not strong enough for SOPA in the sense that it's negative. Im however not taking away from the image in that sense
