I enjoyed very much the comments to this shot!
Yes Tibi, he is looking at me since I am the intruder in their little affair

Margaret, I go to museums primarily because I am irremediably addicted to art and they are truly my home. The museums more than galleries give me also the opportunity to observe the complicated relationship between the object or art and the viewer when the viewer is not a creator. I'd love to write a little essay on this topic; so far I just make this booklet of images.

t and Ben and Anita, thank you for the nice words.
t, Yes, you caught me here: I always re-paint when I look.

And Paul, if he doesn't throw the cap to you is that it's too cold for this plus he knows so well that the beret suits him so well. But he stares back at you and just wait for the light to change a bit and see the faces he makes. Yes, the objects stare back at us!

Thought provoking image, just as we feel like the center of the universe, he looks at whoever is looking at him.

I have imagined that she is crossing her eyes and poking her tongue out at him. I would if it were me. What could he do? Slap me with his velvet beret?

I get the feeling you have photographed the portrait or the man in the portrait just as sensitively as he was painted, if that makes any sense. And the viewer is riveted in amazement. Very powereful.

Do you just go to the galleries and sneak up on people? ;)

IT's funny how they had those big scruffy beards in those days. When you look back, they add character to their portraits.
