i can see the noise but it does not bother me in the least - the details are solid and it is not overly sharpened

on my screen, I can't see the noise that's been commented on.
What I do see is a fine background that sets off this well-defined little bug.
Excellent composition and colors here, and yes, a long lens has its uses, oh yes.

It is a surprisingly good lens (in the right hands). It takes a lot of knocking online, but those people want OOB tack sharpness on image #1. You've done well considering that. Goes to show it's not the gear but how you use what you've got.

no flash was used ! This was taken with the long end of the 170 - 500 as I was photographing birds in the early morning! I saw this brown blob on a reed and took some shots to try and id it! It is lit by the sun coming up over the mountain! Which has made a pleasing color background but has made the mist noisy!

Great compo and BG Sandy. You used flash here? I think it's a form of assassin bug.

I like the photo, the composition and the colors, I wish for a bit less noise and sharpening. Otherwise well done!

Quit an interesting insect. Looks like some kind of Bronze Orange Bug. I like the angle and the solid green background.

The impact for me in this shot is the simplicity of composition, something that I always enjoy seeing. You have the bug positioned well in the frame and I like how you've got the plant coming out of the bottom corner. Your focus is excellent, I can see every detail of the hairs on the plant and striations on the bug. Excellent colour on the bug and plant, teemed with a harmonising background. Very good shot, Michele

What in interesting bug. Kind of a creepy ladybug. Nice detail on the "feathering" in the grass stalk.

*shudders* An excellent job capturing this bug. It almost seems to jump out of the screen at me...which is why I'm keeping a very safe distance from my computer.
