I would say it's safe to be neither impressed or depressed! Haha! I've been going for quality over quantity, but I got a little carried away with the continuous shooting mode today, hoping to catch something a little more interesting that I usually get.

Two months ago, when I first got the new camera, I surprised myself when I filled a 8GB card with 300+ shots in one outing. I had no idea that I could even shoot that many shots, considering I shot a total of about 2,000 in the previous 10 years. I just got the 32GB card and was again amazed when I filled it, and disappointed, because I couldn't get the shot I was going for. Quite a moment of conflicting emotions.

I keep telling myself to switch the camera back to single-shot and take time and compose my shots, but I keep forgetting and/or ignoring myself.

Mission accomplished!

I'm in, and this sums up my thoughts as well. It's been a very enjoyable challenge topic.

That's very good advice, in the main. Burst mode is great for fast-developing things, sports action, crowd action, whatever, and it's very useful when shooting with a long lens because often the first image in the burst will show camera movement but the second or third may not. But, all-in-all, there's a lot to be gained from entering a more contemplative mode of shooting :-)

IMO, this is probably one of the most challenging challenges ever...

I've already removed two attempts and likely gonna pull the one I have in... at least another time.

Hi, all... I'm pretty new around here (only participated in 3 challenges so far), and I've only just taken a serious look at this challenge in the last day, and tho I don't know if I'll be able to get a shot ready in time for submission, I have to say "Thank you!" to those that concocted this challenge. I've spent hours last night looking thru Nixter's galleries (and still going thru some!), and spent a few hours this afternoon shooting like crazy in my local downtown area (1900+ shots!), trying to pay attention to the things that I think I saw in Nixter's shots, compared to my own shots.

In a nutshell, it looked to me that Nixter has a fantastic sense of composition, with images filled with textures, light and shadow, and often a sense of motion. It's very cool stuff, and whether or not I ever come close, it has been a blast just attempting to see and capture images of things around me in a different way. As a beginner, this is the kind of challenge I needed to force myself to work on composition of an entire image, and not just some single thing that caught my eye.

This is exactly how I felt about this challenge. So I guess I have to really thank Nixter both for being such an inspiration and for the humbling experience.

I happen to know that you have a couple of killer shots to choose from, too. :-)

Edit to add that I thanked Johanna in my notes on my entry - I'd probably not have made it out to shoot at all except she graciously offered to meet up with me this weekend. Which is how I know she has some killer shots to choose from!

I also expect you to be someone that will be strong in this challenge. Much of your b/w street photography has a similar feel to it. In fact, I think I have mistaken a shot or two of Nixter's for yours in a challenge.

My shot I believe was number 3 for this challenge. I was shooting for Photojournalism when I saw something I felt met this challenge. I had a sudden hit of inspiration and reset my camera and took two shots. I know what I've entered is not great but it was truly inspired by this challenge and despite the low score I expect, it is one of my favourites. This is am exciting challenge to be in.

I agree, I expect to see the highest degree of nixterosity from Deb.

I like the way you used that as an adjective.

Yeah, well, I wouldn't even have entered if it hadn't been for you and your guidance!!!! Still hemming and hawing about which of my "killer" images to submit :-(

I think my entry is far more me than Nick, which is oddly logical. But nixterosity is definitely something I try to incorporate.

I look forward to voting this one. I think it is already a success based on comments in this thread!

I went. I shot. I'm excited!

Now I'm downloading the photos and will probably be disappointed, but I had a good time! :)

Had a great afternoon out shooting for this challenge, can't seem to imitate nixters unique style but i enjoyed trying, ended up with three possible candidates, finished up eliminating the two that i thought had the most me in them. I would like to thank whoever thought of this challenge, It has been really enjoyable doing something different and discovering nixters work, i don't have much hope for my entry and i'm not that happy with it, but if i don't enter I'll be kicking myself all next week. Good luck to you all.

Dear Nixter,

Please accept my apologies in advance for my disastrous entry.

I did my best but being you is difficult for the creatively impaired people like me!

So, please don't hold it against me.

Devil's advocate here. I'll probably get skewered for this, but Nixter is the only one that knows the real answer. In looking over his portfolio, I see a lot of stuff that appears to have haphazard composition. Some of those have done poorly in challenges, such as this: , and others he didn't enter into challenges. We are all declaring this genius artistic work, but some of it appears as if he may have just said "oh, that's cool looking" and gone with it in spite of the flaws and problems.

I like most of his work, and I also admire the fact that he enters what he likes and does not seem to worry if it has popular appeal. Just wondering if many of these are not as well thought out and thoughtfully composed as we suppose.

My own entry is one that would be voted down in any other challenge as having many large and obvious flaws, but I also like it and the story it conveys. It was good to step outside my box. This should be a very interesting challenge for everyone.

You can let loose with the flamethrowers now.

No flamethrowers from me. I suspect Nick would agree.

This challenge has made me a pro at dodging security gaurds:) Well, I am also viewing the places I normally walk with a completely different eye..that when I was thinking that I always am aware and sharp looking for shots. Just this afternoon I could not believe various different angles and aspects of a mall I am going to just about every second day.

Great challenge, great learning curve...poor attempt, but it's in. Good luck to all and looking forward to vote in this challenge. I have a feeling I will be voting scores well above my normal average in voting. No flame throwing from me...except if I could just identify Spiffs entry..;)

It's the really sucky one. Or maybe the awesome one. I'm not sure yet.

I'm awfully disappointed, everything stacked up against me for this week, so I didn't get anything in the end. Ah well, at least I won't get a lousy score :) I look forward very much to voting this one.

I spent the whole afternoon and evening yesterday and the whole afternoon today, going thru and processing some of the images I took for this challenge. About an hour ago, I finally got it down to 6 candidates, and I had a real hard time deciding which shot to go with, but I picked one and just submitted it. I'm tormented, as I would really have loved to get folk's impression on all 6 of the images, but I guess I only get to let one of them be judged.

This was tons of fun and exhausting! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's entries and the results!
