Challenge: Lucky 7 (Basic Editing I)
Collection: Favorites - Ribbons
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: Easton, CT

Aperture: f/4.0
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/60
Galleries: Humorous
Date Uploaded: Nov 30, 2004

I wasn't even going to enter this Challenge, but my Humor shot isn't going well, so I needed something else to click on. Anybody see the movie Bruce Almighty? ;-)

A last minute idea, and probably my easiest shot ever. I just crossed my fingers on my right hand and put my left hand in back with two fingers wedged between the others. Shot with a 420ex flash in front of black poster board.

Processing: Crop, USM and Levels. The color version had an unfinished 'snapshot' feel to it, so I colorized/desaturated it nearly to grayscale and added a thin gray border. That's it!

Dude, I tried and tried to get my fingers to go like this trying to imitate your photo for the new 'Lucky 7' challenge. Man, I hope you play the guitar or something. I do and there's no way I could get my fingers to do this! When I first saw it, I thought 'he MUST have used expert editing but no! Thanks for the explanation - peace out!

I didn't realize this was so easy, I actually tried a long exposure with 5 fingers showing then again with 2 more, some of my shots came very close to postable but just not enough. Good job...and yes after I read how you did it I tried it too :).

Congratulations on your 4th place! I thought this would ribbon. As usual, creative and expertly done!

Thanks, Mag. I'm betting that some of the low scores came from people who just didn't notice the extra fingers. I got a few comments from folks who said they didn't get it at first. I could have put "Seven Fingers Crossed..." in the title, but I prefer subtlety over a sledgehammer.

Thanks for the votes and comments everyone! I can't be upset with losing out to better pictures. :-)

Shannon, level with them. I noticed when we met in October that you had a few extra fingers on that hand. ;)

Congrat's on 4th!!!!!! This is a great trick, right on theme, and funny shot too!

I still think they ought to give out ribbons through at least 6th place!

Very clever, a well taken image. For the first few seconds I couldn't work out what was not quite right. This deserves a top 10 - I wish the two longer fingers were not as softly focussed at their tips ( but thats nit picking)

Very very clever! Great job with this subject. Choice of colors and contrast works well. There is just the hint of a second hand to the right and below the thumb. I know you couldn't clone it out but it might have been worth a reshoot. Good job!

Very funny! I had to look twice at this one. The background hand below the thumb could have been hidden, though.

When somebody suggested taking a shot of seven fingers in one of the forums, I laughed about it. You did a great job putting seven fingers on one hand without editing! I'd have desaturated it completely, and used a different light angle to get some more shadows. If the light came from the right, it wouldn't be possible to see your second hand in the lower left corner. Cool. 6.

You know...after seeing the validation request, I tried this, and it's really hard! lol. So I give you props there. Definately a cute shot. really fitting to the challenge. focus and clarity are great, angle and framing/cropping are great, and lighting is great minus a few small shadows that are noticable, but not distracting. Nice take on the challenge. ~Heather~

Awesome. well done. if you did this all by yourself, you quite the contortionist. my elbows get in the way and i can't seem to hide the rest of my other hand.

the thing i like best is that you've actually composed a nice photo as well as had a great idea. the lighting is great, the sharpness/focus is spot on, and the duotone treatment is good (though a little pink for my tastes - still v.nice).

all in all a well done shot, and the best i've seen in this challenge so far.
