Exam Roomby GeneralEComment: Critique Club Critique
(1) COMPOSITION (CONTENT) Well composed. The strong use of diagonal leading lines makes a very powerful composition.
(2) BACKGROUND I love the background that you have used, makes it look even more like an exam room. If the white paper/cloth has been completely smooth, it would not have added so much texture to the photo.
(3) CAMERA WORK ,TECHNICAL Exposure seems a little harsh to me. I am wondering if you use the on-camera flash? On first look I thought that some softer lighting would have made the photo better. On second thought, this reminds me of a horror film...and maybe the harsh light was intentional. It does add to the creepy feeling one gets from that scarey looking instrument in the upper left.
(4) DIGITAL PROCESSING ,TECHNICAL Good processing. I wonder how this would have looked in Black and White. That might have given it that feeling of being from an old "B" horror movie.
(5)MEETING THE CHALLENGE This photo does a very good job of meeting the challenge. I do not know what that instrument is, but it totally looks out of place in an exam room.
(6) MY OPINION ON THE PHOTO A very interesting photo. It tells a story, although a frightening one. Dr. Frankenstein anyone? |

This ol' House (Shakin Stevens)by PtmanComment: Critique Club Critique
(1) COMPOSITION (CONTENT) Well composed. The strong use of rule of thirds makes a very powerful composition. The scene is also very interesting, making this a photograph that keeps the attention of the viewer for a long period of time. The details in the old wood, and in the clouds makes me want to keep coming back to see what I have missed. The longer one looks at it, the more interesting details come to light.
(2) BACKGROUND I guess in this case the background would be the heavy threatening sky. Just enough detail to add to the photo without overwhelming it.
(3) CAMERA WORK ,TECHNICAL Exposure is good. Composition is very strong. The focus is very sharp. Overall, excellent camera work.
(4) DIGITAL PROCESSING ,TECHNICAL In my opinion, this could have been cropped a little tighter to allow a better view of the interesting weathered wood. With all of the interesting textures, I wonder how this would look in Black and White.
(5)MEETING THE CHALLENGE This photo does a very good job of meeting the challenge. I can not imagine any house that I have ever seen that would match this song title quite so well.
(6) MY OPINION ON THE PHOTO A very good photograph. I would love to have this hanging in my family room so I could continue to go back and look again. Everytime I look, I see something new that I had missed before. Nicely done! |

Cat in the Land of Miceby daysezComment: Critique Club Critique
(1) COMPOSITION (CONTENT) Well composed. The use of three objects (the OTHER rule of thirds) works very well here. The photograph is very well balanced.
(2) BACKGROUND The shadows from the flash (just an assumption) on the background do give this photograph a true 3 dimentional feeling.
(3) CAMERA WORK ,TECHNICAL Overall the exposure is good, but the darkness on the left is a little distracting. The colors are strong and vibrant. Composition is very pleasing to the eye.
(4) DIGITAL PROCESSING ,TECHNICAL I find that there is nothing I can add to this. The primary colors are bright and clear, the whites are really white and the blacks are black.
(5)MEETING THE CHALLENGE This photo does a very good job of meeting the challenge. This would also have worked well in the humor challenge.
(6) MY OPINION ON THE PHOTO A very good still life picture. I would love to see this hanging in a childs room. The strong colors really make this photograph. |

Chains around my heartby SonifoComment: Critique Club Critique
(1) COMPOSITION (CONTENT) Well composed. The diagonal lines of the chains across the heart is a nice compositional detail. The pile of chains at the bottom of the photograph are perfect use of the rule of thirds.
(2) BACKGROUND The color of the background adds to the richness of the photograph and complements the deep red of the heart. The only suggestion I could make here would be to add a little more light to the background so that it becomes a little more dominate in the photograph instead of totally disappearing at the top of the frame.
(3) CAMERA WORK ,TECHNICAL Exposure is good. Composition is strong.
(4) DIGITAL PROCESSING ,TECHNICAL There is only one change that I might suggest. Your exposure and post processing got the heart richly exposed but the chains seem just a little bit burnt out. I wish I could see more detail in them. This might have been accomplished by moving in just a little closer and making the chains a bigger part of the over all photograph.
(5)MEETING THE CHALLENGE This photo does a very good job of meeting the challenge. I might have suggested putting the name of the group into the title for those of us that are getting senile, and can not remember.
(6) MY OPINION ON THE PHOTO A very good picture. Nice use of color to invoke emotion in the viewer. Good work. |

(1) COMPOSITION (CONTENT) Well composed. The diagonal lines of branches/snow really draw the eye into the frame. This along with the strong use of rule of thirds makes a very powerful composition. The scene is also very interesting, making this a photograph that keeps the attention of the viewer for a long period of time. The longer one looks at it, the more interesting details come to light. This is a photograph that would not do as well in a thumbnail view, as many of the really interesting details are lost.
(2) BACKGROUND I like the use of a slow shutter speed to soften the water in the background which makes the foreground really "pop". This is magnified by the whiteness of the snow on the branch.
(3) CAMERA WORK ,TECHNICAL Exposure is good. Composition is very strong.
(4) DIGITAL PROCESSING ,TECHNICAL There is only one change that I might suggest. Your exposure and post processing got the water just right, but the highlight on the snow seems just a little bit burnt out. I wish I could see just a little more detail. I am not sure that you could have improved this with the limitations on post-processing on DPC though.
The blue cast to everything puts a surreal feeling into the photograph, as well as adding to the feeling of cold The surreal feeling is almost like pulling the viewer into a dream world. This is one of the dominate aspects of this photograph.
(5)MEETING THE CHALLENGE This photo does a very good job of meeting the challenge. I might have suggested putting the name of the group into the title for those of us that are getting senile, and can not remember.
(6) MY OPINION ON THE PHOTO A very good winter picture. I especially like the use of a very slow shutter speed to soften the water snd the use of blue to create that coldness. I shivered just looking at it.

Grazeby FrooberComment: This may be the best of the best in this challenge. The reflection of the steer looks so surreal, it gives a feeling of other-worldliness. This is a photograph that I would be proud to hang in my house. Well done. (Sorry I could not offer any constructive critisism, there is nothing I would change). |

Spaghettiby JackoComment: As much as I do like this photo, there does not seem to be a specific focus point. My eye tends to wanderback and forth looking for the place to stop. This would do well in one of those "what is it" quizzes. |
