Pelican in Flightby kawesttexComment: Probably one of the better bird in flight shots from this competition.

Muscovy Duck In Profileby scarbrdComment: Ugly little fella. Nice shot, although I'm not sure this is exactly a wild bird... Still going to score high.

Seagull, Laguna Beach Tide Poolsby bspurgeonComment: Well, I think this nails the classic portrait look. In any case, I like the bright of the eye, and the feather texture. I would have liked a wider DOF and while I think the vignetting works here, I think it also removes the ability to objectively judge the setting. (wild or not).. Still, very nice.

CRY BABYby riderComment: Nice shot... I will score as though this is a wild bird, however, I would really like to see a context shot here, as there is no way for us to verify that this isn't tethered to a post.

EYE SEE RED alisterus scapularisby nivlekComment: I think this definitely qualifies as a portrait, however how am I supposed to know this is a wild bird? I'll assume for now it really is, but I think this one needs at least one "context" image for support.
Also, killer detail on the feathers and eye.

Death's Vile Servantby bcrantsComment: Looks soft, although PP could probably fix that. Nice shot overall.

The Line Upby rkligmanComment: I like this image. The leading line is great, and I love the DOF.
Birds are of course a bit washed out on the chest and head - what a shame, this is otherwise a very nice shot. |
