Hummingbird Mothby NikonJebComment: And, don't they just love the lantana? And, if you have Russian Sage, they will be there in swarms. I've come to know these critters as Clearwing Sphinx Moths but there is always they nano-second when they look like the fat bumble bees that enjoy the same blossoms, yet, they forage like hummingbirds. Delightful picture. |

down by the riverby jgirl57Comment: Thought I recognized the Centennial Bridge! :-)
I agree with the other commenter, some curves, mid-tone, and shadows work would have improved this. Yet, in my opinion, it was a great take on the challenge. |

Light bulb by NeatComment: Very clever and artfully executed. Cheering for a front page placement. |

markwileyby markwileyComment: Know, please, that many months ago I had identified you as a very skilled photographer. On so many levels your work is inspirational to those of us who are still hobbling around in the "wanna-be" strata.
That you chose street photography as what defines you as a photographer somewhat surprised me because you have demonstrated your skill in so many other realms.
Yet, I wholly respect your choice because there is a craft - a magic - to this type of photography, and to execute it so effectively, so seemingly effortlessly in gritty Chicago is amazing to me.
Granted, I now reside in an undeniably rural area, but many, many moons ago I used to live in the Quad-Cities and often traveled into Chicago to "play." Despite the intention to "play" it was always stressful - the bustle, the detached f-you attitudes, the grime, the cement were always unsettling. Yet, you manage to capture the very vulnerable, very human aspect of residing in a very gritty city.
This is good stuff, but I'm not telling you something you don't already recognize.
Succinctly: keep up the good work. Kudos. |

Jomariby jomariComment: Just when I thought I was done with comments, I compelled to come back to yours. First, the 3-D quality it projects is quite striking. The colors are bold and the high contrast really gives it an edge.
But my real reason for returning is how curious I found it that you would choose such an edgy image to define who you are as a photographer. I fairly swoon at the delicate quality of some of your flowers and your comments always seem to reflect the demeanor of a sensitive, genteel lady. So the tension in this image really caught me off guard.
Perhaps what is so attractive about photography, is that we are free to explore so many levels of our psyche, spiritualism and character. Thanks for sharing this little peek into the complex layers of your artistic work. |

Ottoman Soldiersby dwyllieComment: Nikki ( nam is right: what a dignified scene. The clover growing amongst the monuments somehow softens the solemnity. Your B&W work is remarkable and the composition is creative - starting the leading line of the path in the center - plus, the image is sharp. Frankly, looking at this now, I am surprised it did not rank higher. |
