Greetings from the Critique Club.

First impressions are that the oranges together with the circles reducing in to the orange make a pleasing shot.

Technically this is good. I'd have preferred the crop to be either wider such that the plates aren't crammed in so much or tighter so that the large plate is not fully visible. As it is there is a slight feeling of claustrophobia. I will say that the lighting does seem a bit harsh.

Artistically this is good but you know that this works well from your PB shot. I wonder if these are the same plates with a hue change?

In summary this is a good shot but the top 10 placing tells you that. Good work.

Feel free to PM me if you have any queries.

Greetings from the Critique Club.

First impressions are that the colours are off. It feels too bright and also a bit confusing.

Technically it seems like the saturation is too high or the HDR tone mapping has gone haywire! Composition is poor as there are orange bits scattered throughout the frame rather than being in an area where our eyes can settle. There are no leading lines to guide us around the placement you have chosen.

Artistically some of the orange pieces look tatty. This couples with the haphazard approach to their placement makes this look like you just threw them down rather than thinking about what a viewer may enjoy.

In summary this shot falls down on both technical and artistic elements and the score reflects that.

Feel free to PM me if you have any queries.

Greetings from the Critique Club.

First impressions are that this is a very good shot of a pear. The crop makes this very big and it stands out.

Technically This is good but there are a couple of areas that could be improved. The apple on the left is quite prominent even though blurred due to the stalk, removing the stalk would have softened it's impact. The DOF is quite shallow and that means the stalk of the pear is OOF and we are thus left with more of a study of texture of the pear than a still life. The centred composition works quite well.

Artistically this is not so strong. It's a pear sitting on some apples and that's about it. I think this is what hurt your score more than anything.

In summary this is an ok shot of a pear but lacks the special something to make the voter think it is anything more than that.

Feel free to PM me if you have any queries.

Greetings from the Critique Club.

First impressions are that the shot feels a little flat and the bottle draws my eye more than the fruit.

Technically this is ok but there are a couple of areas where you could improve. The overall feel is that the lighting is a bit flat and some more contrast would help. The composition is slightly off as the bottle is such a major element in the shot - it is a little bit crooked and feels cramped in the frame - a crop with the top of the bottle out of frame would have reduced it's impact somewhat. There is good separation from the background.

Artistically this is fine. For a still life challenge it is hard to do a lot more than you have here. The choice of cloth as a background works well.

In summary I find the shot pleasing but nothing special. The score it received is about where I'd put it.

Feel free to PM me if you have any queries.

Hi from the Critique Club

First impressions are that it is a nice shot with a quirky aspect to it.

The title is a great choice as it makes us think about what the picture is showing us - it draws us in to spending more time looking at it.

The lighting is good (I wish I could use speedlights as well) but that lamp is out of place in the scene being all yellow and bright and all. A bit of dodge/burn to lessen the impact of some of the busy elements in the background would have been helpful.

I'm surprised this didn't make a 6.x score but I guess that is more to do with it not having a "wow" factor for DPC than any real reflection on the shot itself.

This is a great shot and even if DPC didn't vote it as high as it should have been it makes a wonderful reminder of this time that women only experience a few times in their life.

Good work

Hi from the Critique Club

First impressions are that this is a great study in lines and geometry.

The HDR processing is good, and it works well. (I see you like the HDR look). The textures really show through. There is a little bit of noise in the sky that I'd prefer to have been dealt to.

Composition is good with great leading lines drawing us to the top of the tower.

I can't anything else to fault in the shot and the voters couldn't either with a solid 6.x score. Well done.

Hi from the Critique Club

First impressions are that this is a great shot. Composition is fantastic, DOF perfect, the B&W processing is spot on. The one thing that stands out as holding it back is the tat's at the right seem to be such a main element. This is of course something that the subjects and those that know them will love but for DPC I suspect a lot of voters saw that as a negative.

This deserved a 6.x and it got that. I think it deserved higher but that's just my opinion.

This is great work, keep it up.
