Sunday afternoon by MelethiaComment: Nice diverging perspective formed by the shadows. I always like elements in the photograph which might delay the discovery of the real subject. However, here the cycling girl is really prominent and the family looks a bit secondary, at least to my eyes. Perhaps, if the girl were loooking in their direction and being looked back at, the interplay between the two centres of interest would work better for me. |

My Life, My Love, My Familyby GilesComment: Thomas the train, ASDA strikes back I suppose :) My boy loves that shirt. Nice portrait, I like the single light lighting. Not sure if that's a problem and didn't try myself, but a piece of foam or cardboard around the flash could have helped reducing spillage of light on your backdrop.

Ok, now I know it's a softbox and a small gobo would have not helped, my bad :) |

Share this with himby tonywanComment: I like the candlelight and the expression, but I am a bit uncertain about the mood of the photograph. Whether it might be depicting a sad situation or else. |

Unity in diversityby vamudhaComment: Nice idea and pretty original in this challenge. I am a bit unsure about the strong color cast. In a sense it makes me for a more realistic feeling, but even common household lamps are not this warm to the human eye.
I remember seeing somewhere a similar concept, but with tiny plates in front of the canisters/bottles and filled with their content. With the right illumination that made for a pretty pleasant picture. |

"Say Cheese!"by dtallaksonComment: I find the postprocessing a bit too contrasty, at least on my monitor. Perhaps a tighter crop, exclusing the lady ont he right and a bit of the top, would have helped leading the eye from the photographer to the family. |

Family Treeby alexlkyComment: I like this. Imposing in their apparent fragility. Perhaps I would have liked it better with the light coming from the front and the long shadows extending from the trunks. But that would have been a different shot entirely, I suppose. |

Brothersby NeatComment: Very natural, non stiff, group portrait. I love the completely different expressions on the siblings' faces, it seems to say something about their different personalities. And love the fact that the young one is looking so joyfully elsewhere, which suggests that the rest of the family is not far away and somewhat part of the picture too. Good job! |

Alyssa Liesby MinsoPhotoComment: Ok, after much pondering, I bump this to 10.
I find the subject matter particularly disturbing, but angle, framing and pose are just right. And that's a sad, pretty realistic, slice of reality.

Kick in the guts image for this challenge. Very disturbing. 8 |
