| 02/23/2003 01:16:21 PM | She Measures Upby ShiiizzzamComment: Nice image, but for the life of me, I can't figureout what her waist size is!! Idon't understand your measuring tape. How did you get this to desaturate flesh tones without affecting the yellow of the tape? I've tried this technique and I've had a hard time separating fleshtones from yellows. Great job, nice image and good luck in the challenge. 8 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 02/23/2003 01:08:16 PM | Sunburstby mariomelComment: So how cool is this shot? Enought o get a 10 from me!! I love the lighting on this! I'd be interested to find out what your lighting setup was like. The brighter yellow circle of light around the center of the flower is great! THe lower part of that brighter yellow is a little bit blown out, but not enough to complain about. Cropping on the yellow flower is perfect, too. I really like the composition created with that crop. For the most part, your background provides added interest without being a distraction. I like that the background is not all solid black. With that said, I do think the small amount of background 'leafs' that are overlapping the yellow petals is distracting. I would have moved those behind the flower. Better yet, I would have trimmed them out of the picture. The lighting on the background elements works very well, but these leaves in particular have the same lighting as the yellow flower. They are not part of the flower, but the lighting on them is too strong for them to match with the background elements. OK... I feel like I am rambling! Even though I found something I would have changed in this image, I am still giving it a 10 because it has enough WOW factor to overcome the small flaws! Nice work!

| 02/23/2003 01:01:35 PM | Petalby welcherComment: This is my only 10 so far. So many people think that a flower, if properly exposed and in focus, makes a wonderful image. That is not true, and in many cases, it is the lighting that sets a great floral image apart from the nice, but boring images. This shot is nearly perfect in lighting, which is so tough to achieve. The range from light to dark tones is very good, without any lown highlights. The lower dark petals offset the bright upper petals in a way that balances your composition. The actual shape of your composition is nothing special, but the lighting really makes it! DOF is great, focus is perfect, lighting is great. the only thing I can find fault in are the two white specks on the left side of the image (in the black background). That's easy to fix for printing, and I won't count off for it due to the restriction on spot editing (this image is a good reason to get rid of that rule). Nice shot, my only 10 so far! Good luck in the challenge!

| 02/22/2003 05:36:31 PM | Repitition in formby NatashaComment: There are images in the challenge that have more visual appeal than this one, but this is the most clever by far! Did you set this up? Or was it your sharp eye that caught this repeating pattern? either way, I like it a lot. Is that a dress, or fancy pajamas??? If it's fancy underwear/pajamas, then I'd be inclined to think this shot is set up. Either way, I like it! 8 Good luck in the challenge!

| 02/22/2003 05:33:24 PM | Harmonyby JeanComment: Congrats! My only 10 for this challenge. I thought it was a really cool abstract at first, but I quickly realized it consists of a glass and some plant leaves, on mirror/glass. A very nice set up, very clever and very appealing color and tone. Your focus, DOF, clarity of detail, lighting, etc are all perfect. There appears to be some falloff of DOF from the glass to the leaves, but I like that. I think it helps the photo, rather than having the leaves crisp and sharp. The patterns created in the liquid are wonderful. The only thing I don;t like about this shot is the border you chose. Yes, that color reflects similar colors in the image, but because of that, the border appears very weak and flat to me. The dark green in the leaf on the bottom right might have been a better choiice of color for the border, IMHO. I won't knock your score for a border, though. Everything else is perfect! Great job! 10

| 02/15/2003 03:35:24 PM | Gallery Place-Chinatownby ClubJuggleComment: The Metro is a really great place for this challenge. I didn't even think of it (and I'm close by). I like that you used black and white on this (the greenish yellow cast in the Metro shots would not have worked as well). Nice angle, you did great with the lighting, which can be very difficult there. The black rectangle in the upper left is a little distracting to me. Overall a fun shot of a fun place! | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 02/15/2003 03:30:52 PM | Heatby AleciaComment: Great image, but I'm not understanding your tie in to perspective. I'm scoring this image based on how much I feel it ties into the challenge, although I feel it would deserve a better score just because it is such a good image. If you can explain your tie in to perspective to me, I will adjust my score accordingly (if I understand and agree).
