Absent Squares by paynekjComment: I love the idea and the details. great use of DOF. The only thing that would improve the image for me is the crop on the left side. I think more green to the left of the wood frame, or grop it closer into the wood frame would work better for me. Great image anyway! Nice job. 9
On a final review of my votes, I bumped this up to a 10, my only one! Good job... |

Fresh Air Vent?!by MonaComment: The grid is nice, but it is the dust that really makes this image. Either your grate is not consistent dimensions across the grid, or your lens wasn't parrallel and centered over the subject. The grid thickness at the far right of the image and top of the image is consistent, but not at the left and to a lesser degree on the bottom. Not really a big deal because the center of the image captures my attention with great details. Nice job and Good Luck in the challenge. 7 |

Eyes Sq Onby redfigComment: This shot is one of my favorites this week! Great idea. I would have liked to see more of the image that is cut off at the right side of the frame. I like that the eye is not in the center of the 'square, but I think it would have better balance if it were further from the upper right of the thumb. This is a good shot and I give it an 8. I would try some more versions and work with placement of the eye within the fingers. This is a fun idea that I would try to get the best image possible to enjoy, not just for the challenge!

A castle for my princessby jenaromComment: I love your depth of field in this shot. I spent $10 buying blocks just like these, but entered a different shot instead.
Your colors are great... very vibrant without being over saturated. I would like to have seen the little girl's whole hand on the left side of the frame. Getting the whole hand in might have been at the cost of less of her face??? Face is better than fingers, though. Nice shot, very well done. 8

The Hill In Infraredby DavenitComment: The use of infrared gives this shot a lot of drama and emotion. I like the range of tones from blacks to whites. This almost has an illustration quality to it. The only thing I'm not liking is the horizon at the center of the frame. I like seeing the horizon offset, either higher or lower in the frame. The diagonal lines in the foreground are a very stong element in this photo, as are the dramatic clouds. Even though they are both strong elements, I still think cropping to place your horizon near the 1/3 or 2/3 line would help. Nice shot and nice use of black and white! 8 |

Road to Fogginessby kiwinessComment: I love the tones in this image. I like the sillohuette of the trees as well. The only thing I'm not too crazy about is the horizon near the center of the frame. Cropping out a little on the bottom would offset your horizon a little, adding balance to the photo (IMHO). Still a great shot and I give it an 8! Good luck in the challenge. |

Over all hilltops is peace - in all the treetops you feel - barely a breez; .... (Goethe)by Harz_JoergComment: The more I look at this, the more I like it. My shot this week is a similar concept (foreground object the main focus of the image). I like the very simple lines of the tree line horizon, the clear sky. I also like the graduation of tones in the foreground. I keep trying to imagine this shot without the branch to the right of the stem. I think I would either like this better without the branch, or crop lower so the branch doesn't start at the very bottom of the frame. Nice image and good luck in the challenge...8 |

Lunar Landscapeby marboComment: This is pretty cool, but I had to give you a 9 instead of a 10 because I couldn't find the American flag the astronauts left up there. Maybe it was on the dark side of the moon this day! I can't explain why, but the white portion of the border is a little over bearing. Maybe a thin white border with a thicker black border would give it more balance. |

Oak Treeby GotchaComment: I was just telling my wife last week that I\'ve been looking for a really cool, solitary tree that I can photograph on the crest of a hill. This is definitely a cool tree. I like the patches of green grass, and the sky is nice. I find the bush a little distracting, but you can\'t do anything about that with the editing rules. I\'d clone it out, though, for printing or other purposes. The only other thing I would have tried would be to get a lower vantage point. I would have liked to see the base of the tree at the crest of the hill, rather than having more \'land\' behind the tree trunk. If I had access to this place, I would go back and photograph it often... lots of different skys, sunsets, sunrises, rain, snow, meteor storms, etc!! I like this a lot and I give it an 8! I hope it does well in the challenge! Good luck,
JD Anderson
One other think... I'm not sure I like the white border... actually, i'm pretty sure that I don't. You really don't have any white tones in the image to draw out with the white border. I may have gone all black, but this is a very minor detail. |

Given to Flyby welcherComment: Nice composition and concept. Nice clear blue sky as well! The ends of a few branches are showing on the left and I'd like to see more of the boys face. Still a great shot as is! Very well done. |
