The Photojournalistby staabComment: Hey, I have that head! (well, 2 actually...) and I have the 503 which I like a lot more. I also have a Cartoni, which cost more than it's worth, IMHO but the carbon fiber legs make up for the less than stellar head... Kudos for putting a decent lens on that XL2, I have the original XL1 which still gets used! Not much though since I have an HVX-200 at work...
Good luck - came back to add more to my comment & bump you up a notch. Criticisms: I would have used more diffusion on your key to soften the shadows & flagged/scrimmed off the area hitting the white of the camera to help bring some detail back there. A back light would have been great to add a little bit of modeling to all that black plastic. Believe it or not, I actually think the red velvet is hurting you quite a bit here, but that's probably my own personal taste... To me the worst is the hard shadows.
Good luck - you'll probably beat my entry which ended up being a last minute snap-shot (after abandoning my other shot which took almost 2 hours to light & set-up - lol). Message edited by author 2007-01-01 02:28:19. |

Tempestby elsapoComment: Nice moment - interesting image that has a little too much contrast & is a little top-heavy - << 9 >> |

the tormented mindby drueovComment: Strong imagery :: nice B&W technique :: nice use of shallow DOF :: title works perfectly for the challenge
Missing the wow factor, though... << 7 >> |

Clean Round the Bendby Mr_PantsComment: Funny! Excellent execution - lighting & exposure match really well + you can barely tell the key. I'll be surprised if you don't ribbon with this... << 10 >> |

A Clean Canvasby Baron152Comment: B&W is a nice choice here -- I would have tweaked the channels first to get some more texture overall -- Could use a bit more on the sharpness end, too... |

Fiery Patternsby sherpetComment: Nicely composed & great subject, but I don't think you did the image any favors by boosting the colors like you did - those blues are downright annoying (but maybe this was a UV shot...)
If this was an IR/UV, then I think it would have been better served by bringing some of the bottom end back in & creating some dynamic range in luminance while possibly dialing back the sat just a skosh.
