A bit soft for my taste (no pun intended). Great lighting, backlight gives the shot a whole other dimension. Good job.

A bit dark, took me a few seconds and viewing the screen from many postitions before I found out what it is. Still can't figure the whole frame out.

A bit over sharpened, evident on the outlines of the babies shoulders.

A bit too much contrast for my taste, gives it a flat feeling.

Very nice portrait, sharp and a great model. Her eyes do very much for this shot. Good composition, and nice shades of gray. Good job.

The frame is weird, and the blonde woman is slightly out of focus. Good lighting.

*** Greetings from the Critique Club ***

Hi Cole, here are my thoughts on your Indecision entry:

Challenge
The entry fits the challenge very nicely, don't think anyone can disagree with me on that one.

[/b]Composition[/b]
Your composition is very nice, good use of the square format and your head and the coin are placed nicely within the frame (must have been a pain in the rear to get the coin in the right place with a timer!)

[/b]Lighting[/b]
Lighting is great, good use of an external flash with good detail on shirt and skin and it doesn't have that "hard-flash-look" that I don't like. The cap might have been slightly lighter to seperate it from the background.

[/b]Camera work[/b]
Great work here, everything within the dof, very sharp and clear in all ways. You know your gear.

[/b]Post-Processing[/b]
Great b/w, very clean and simple, nothing looking "fixed" or faked.

[/b]Title and Info[/b]
Title is good (and true) and the info, although short, sais everything it needs to say imho.

[/b]Overall (my opinion)[/b]
Good shot in most ways but might be better. Lacks the so called wow-factor, but then again this challenge and the wow factor is hard to combine (couldn't find anything to shoot my self).

Hope this helps (excuse my english, i'm icelandic)

Best regards, Tyrkinn

*** Greetings from the Critique Club ***

Hi Dawn, here are my thoughts on your Indecision entry:

Challenge
The photo fits the challenge very nicely. I guess the whole challenge was built around the election and this pretty much sais what it's all about.

[/b]Composition[/b]
I'd say the composition is o.k. but not much more than that. Putting more tention into the shot could emphasize the indecision part. Another angle and perspective could have given it more "juice", maybe shooting upward or something like that.

[/b]Lighting[/b]
Lighting is good, very even and no blown out parts (good for shooting car paint in the sun).

[/b]Camera work[/b]
Camera work is excellent, you have a very nice camera and put it to good use. Everything is sharp and in focus except maybe the background trees and you can tell that you used good gear the right way. Shooting this kind of subject suggest using deep depth of field and it works nicely for the shot.

[/b]Post-Processing[/b]
Post processing is very tasteful and the shot looks very "real", no over-sharpening, no burning or dodging or anything like that. Colors look very real and the overall look gives it a photojournalism feel, like you were documenting the scenery. I generally don't like "complicated" borders (I'm always stuck with my own 10 pixel black one if I use one, lol) but yours is a good exsample of how it should be done in this instance. The colors of the border also underline the challenge, using "election colors", same as on the stickers. Good job.

[/b]Title and Info[/b]
Title is great and can be interperated in more than one way. The info is o.k. but I would want to see more, especially what lens used and at what focal length. Pasting full exif info (or the interesting parts at least) under your comments is easy and quick and informing for the rest of us.

[/b]Overall (my opinion)[/b]
In my opinion the photo lacks the so called wow-factor. Technically it's very nicely done and it fits the challenge, and it even makes you think a bit, but visually it isn't that rememberable. This challenge was very hard in my opinion though and I couldn't find anything my self to shoot so I can't blame you. Going for an unusual perspective could maybe have given it an extra point or so.

Hopes this helps in some way, good luck in the future. (Excuse my english, I'm icelandic so my first language isn't english)

Best regards, Tyrkinn

The background blends in with their hair and clothing, would be better to use a light background.
