Very nice capture! There are a few possible interpretations of the image, but science is certainly one of them. You might want to try placing the tube closer to the 1/3 line on the right to give the frame a bit more drama. Probably a 'landscape' orientation would be best here. Very nive though.

This is a great idea! It took me a moment or two to get it, which I thought was a nice experience as a viewer - it added an intellectual dimension to viewing the picture. You might want to try the combination of putting a snoot on the flash and having a GoBo somewhere to control the spill and keep the bulb in deeper darkness. This would really let you idea shine brighter (hehe, what a pun!!)

This is a great shot for establishing the subject of the challenge. Lighting, WB and tones are all well done. What would be really cool was if you could work the subjects a little more to convey a bit more of a story or give it more personality.
