I'm not comfortable with the focus on this. I'm usually ok with soft focus, but this makes me rub my eyes.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

For some reason this shot makes me think of War of the Worlds, with the Martians marching across Earth, devastating everything in their path. I like how you used the hydro towers as your focal point, and the big looming sky adds to the slightly ominous feel, and is that a rent in the clouds I see near the top? The scrubby hills already look like the death rays have been at work :-)

The main problem is the lack of a strong wow factor. Technically it's an OK shot, very straightforward, but just not compelling enough to make the viewer come back and look some more. A hit of saturation might have helped a little.

Still, good use of unusual elements that we don't normally see in landscapes. Keep on shooting and entering!

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Hmm California is meant to be an altered state of mind, is it not? The amazing flatness interspersed by the tiny little car/truck, dwarfed by gigantic hydro towers...and the heavy looking haze hanging there, held down by the clouds and huge empty sky...yep...it's an OK shot but just doesn't have the mind-blowing colours or super-fascinating subject matter voters love...

...sorry, drifted off for a second there...y'know, the whole uberchill CA thing ;-) Even PS agrees that the horizon is level! Who can argue with that? Definitely not what I think of when I automatically think CA, but maybe it's all for the better.

Meantime this looks like a last-minute shoehorn. A kinda freakily cool shoehorn, but I know you can do a lot better than this.

I like using the powerlines as a grounding (ha!) force in your photo rather than trying to hide them as happens often with landscapes.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Very good capture of what looks like the Oz version of the Great Blue Heron in North America. Lovely shapes, nice dof and focus, all I can think of is that the somewhat flat light and lack of popping colours hurt you most. Still you broke 6 with this and in an FS, so that's no mean feat.

Keep on shooting and entering!
