good take on the category - i wouldn't have thought there was a way to convey "alone" with more than one person...but you proved me wrong - great idea. My only suggestion would be to use a higher shutter speed to freeze the action of the moving kids. Nice idea to use b/w, that always conveys more of an emotion. nice work.

Comment by Shannon:
I think this photo would have been more effective if the other kids had been further off in the background, I don't really get the sense of aloness in this photo as much as the feeling that she was just passing but, she doesn't really appear to being left out...if that makes any sense. :-)

Hm.. I'm not sure why, but the rose looks digitized or pixelly to me, maybe its the focus or the lighting. I like the concept of the piece (as gathered by the title) but I don't think I'm following how the image portrays what the title says. Maybe its because the light source is in the photo and so I can't visually grasp how it is faded. I think just having the soft glow of the candle light on the rose all on a black background might have been interesting to try. I do like the choice in lighting, candlelight and roses always go great together in my opinion. 5

A really engaging idea here! Composition is nice. Try experimenting with this shot (or a similar one) with sunlight--but in the shade. I think your tones will end up being more pure and natural.

The way you have the lighting makes it feels dreamy. The dark background helps to give a feeling that you're at the theatre. The fabric seems like the kind they use to cover the screen.

Make sure the kids don't grab it first. The lighting and black background make the popcorn stand out really nicely.

DOF is nice but focus is a little soft for my taste! Like the subtle reflection of the popcorn in the dish!

Good lighting, nice simple background. The popcorn looks fresh and light and buttery. I think the focus is a bit soft and I'm not sure if that border detracts or not - the color seems a little washed out and brings down the tone of the bowl, IMO. 6
