The focus came out too soft. I double checked on different monitors to be sure it wasn't me. You might have wanted to come in closer on it. The chair leg in the upper left didn't help either. On an unrelated note, If I saw this at a yard sale, I'd snap it up in a minute...

I'll buy it! what is it? I would have prefered not to see all that background at either side. The crop at the base seems about right. This looks more like a deliberate soft focus than just out of focus, if I am right I would have prefered it to be sharp, the relief of the design would have stood out better maybe.

It comes across being a little flat. I like the contrast/complimentary colors of the blues and tans. I think to really make this picture stand out, I would get down more on level with the surface, and let the shadows create depth. That way the viewer would feel the surface more, instead of just seeing it. karmat

You did a good job showing the textures, and your exposure is right on, but I think you tried to hand hold your camera at too low a shutter speed and there's some blur. Also, you would get more resolution quality if you used the who 150k file size we're allowed.

Total Score5

For those that are just learning, like me.

Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.

Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.

Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.

Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.

There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.

Good luck!
