I think sharper focus would have worked better IMO |

The focus came out too soft. I double checked on different monitors to be sure it wasn't me. You might have wanted to come in closer on it. The chair leg in the upper left didn't help either. On an unrelated note, If I saw this at a yard sale, I'd snap it up in a minute... |

I'll buy it! what is it? I would have prefered not to see all that background at either side. The crop at the base seems about right. This looks more like a deliberate soft focus than just out of focus, if I am right I would have prefered it to be sharp, the relief of the design would have stood out better maybe. |

It comes across being a little flat. I like the contrast/complimentary colors of the blues and tans. I think to really make this picture stand out, I would get down more on level with the surface, and let the shadows create depth. That way the viewer would feel the surface more, instead of just seeing it. karmat |

You did a good job showing the textures, and your exposure is right on, but I think you tried to hand hold your camera at too low a shutter speed and there's some blur. Also, you would get more resolution quality if you used the who 150k file size we're allowed. |

Composition5 Originality6 Technical Aspects5 Meets Challenge5 Total Score5
For those that are just learning, like me.
Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.
Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.
Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.
Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.
There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.
Good luck!

neat object. images is overly blurry. i think that this is caught midair. i wonder why you went that route? |

A little more focus on the centre would have made this shot more interesting. Nice idea. |

i have one of these, and know their texture very well. Unfortunately it does not come through in your photo. the focus is too soft, perhaps using a tripod or making sure your cameras macro mode (if it has one) is engaged. also the image itself is a bit plain, getting much closer (just the table or a portion of it) would show off the texture in the wood better and make for a much stronger image overall, i think. ~mcmurma Aesthetics...3 Meets Challenge...4 Overall...4 |

i think this is a beautiful item you bought at the yard sale, but it's blurry. i'm wondering whether you tried to go for a soft focus here (the color of the background works well for that), but i would really have preferred the item to be in focus. sorry. there's also something protruding into the picture at the top left, maybe a chair leg? -- gr8photos (3) |

I'm sure this has already been said, but it needs focus! :o) The lighting is good as far as I can tell, though perhaps a lower angle would have picked up more of the relief across the surface (but its hard to tell without the object in focus). - Manic - |

The subject is interesting enough from a texture standpoint, but there needs to be at least one thing in focus to draw the eye. What ever is in focus becomes the subject, and without that, there is no real subject and the eye wanders without a place to stop. |

I'm afraid your camera wasn't up to the job. the picture looks like it's got terribly soft focus, at least. might even be slightly shaken, I don't know. I see what you try to do texture-wise, but the technical quality of the shot ruins the concept. also, try to make the file as big as possible, i.e. close to 150 KB to lose as little as possible of its definition. 3 beegee |

good texture. You might want to read the Rule of Thirds tutorial. |

I think the framing on this shot could of been more interesting, also the shot is out of focus. if you could of gotten 1/2 or even a 1/4 of the item filling 80% of the frame it would of been better. This would of require that you use possibly a macro setting on your camera. |

I'm not sure what this is, but the subject and the background are out of focus. The subject is also not well-centered in the frame. It's difficult to frame a round object in a rectangular format sometimes... = 5 - jmsetzler |

What a beautiful piece! I wish it could have been lit a bit more strongly/ directly to highlight those details. Cropping out the table leg in the upper left would enhance this, too. |

Soft focus? (On purpose?) Crop the chairleg, too. 4 Swash |

This looks like it could be a very interesting piece, but the image blur, IMO, dosen't work for this subject. |

Blurry or out of focus. Try more light if blur is the problem. |

I think the object needs to be more in focus. This is way too much out of focus to be a "soft focus" subject. The upper edge needs cropping, there is something there that distracts. |
