Here is what I think this means. I think that is a reflection of a pencil in the tip of the pen. I think it means that you love pens and that your pencil is always in the background, probably unused. In the forums people talked about this being a pen and not meeting the challenge. if this is what I think it is, it meets the challenge just great. The focus is great and I love the black ink dot in the middle. I can't read the writing, but it really doesn't matter. The lighting is great and I love how there is the reflection in the pen. The pen kind of makes my eyes wander to the right edge because it goes off the photo right there, but the ink draws me back in. This really is a great photo and I hope it doesn't suffer because people don't see how it "meets the challenge". Great shot and good luck in the challenge.

I'm sorry I don't see the pencil. What I see is a pen with a ball of ink that has dropped... even in the reflection, I don't see a pencil.. Great photo though, lighting is great, even "DOF" is intact, over all i really like it, just don't see a pencil. 1

I love the composition, light, shallow DOF and the light on both the feather and the ink drop. If you try a little less compression, you might get even better crispness and prevent the slight blurs/jpeg artifacts on the edges of writing, ink and pen.
I guess this was a misunderstanding, so I'll give you an 8. beegee

I really love this shot!. I think the lighting and color are perfect. I like how the written words are just in focus enough to read them. The glare on the drop of ink and the side/ tip of the pen are a tiny distraction - unfortunately I don't have any advice on how to fix that. But the dilema of the score - I am sure you are hearing it a lot. I want badly to give it a ten - but the challenge is pencil - not pen/ink so I am left in an odd situation. This is my favorite shot of the week - but I don't feel it meets the challenge - do I give it 10 or a 1? The rules say I should keep the highest consideration of the challenge in mind when voting??? hmmm not much help there. ok - I will go with an 8. I really do think the shot is great.

Ok everyone else has said it too - but I dont see a pencil. It's a lovely shot though. I love the detail, lighting and dof. 7. Would be 9 in a non-pencil challenge. I keep coming back and looking again at this picture. I really WANT to see a pencil. :( Upping my score to an 8.
