Wow, what a challenge!!! Thank you to all of you who were so positive. Even if I didn't meet the challenge, there are so many of you who appreciated the pic anyway. Maybe I really was out of mind when I submitted this picture ;-). I even have some really high scores - and I achieved that I would be the taillight. Once again, thank you for your positive comments.

| You got RIPPED OFF!!! If only people would LOOK at the photos!!! I am totally apaulled. This is a great photo and should have done WAY better. I hope you do know that it's not your fault that this got a low score. It's the voters not taking the time to look at the darn photos. You can tell the people who looked at it, and didn't. I say Congrats and you got a great score from me. Keep up the good work. Maybe everyone left their glasses home the day they voted. Grrrrrr....I am very frusterated that this didn't do better. Please forgive me if I'm out of line. Grrrrrr again. |

| Here is what I think this means. I think that is a reflection of a pencil in the tip of the pen. I think it means that you love pens and that your pencil is always in the background, probably unused. In the forums people talked about this being a pen and not meeting the challenge. if this is what I think it is, it meets the challenge just great. The focus is great and I love the black ink dot in the middle. I can't read the writing, but it really doesn't matter. The lighting is great and I love how there is the reflection in the pen. The pen kind of makes my eyes wander to the right edge because it goes off the photo right there, but the ink draws me back in. This really is a great photo and I hope it doesn't suffer because people don't see how it "meets the challenge". Great shot and good luck in the challenge. |

| I'm sorry I don't see the pencil. What I see is a pen with a ball of ink that has dropped... even in the reflection, I don't see a pencil.. Great photo though, lighting is great, even "DOF" is intact, over all i really like it, just don't see a pencil. 1 |

great shot! too bad it's only 50% on topic - pen-cil...
I love the composition, light, shallow DOF and the light on both the feather and the ink drop. If you try a little less compression, you might get even better crispness and prevent the slight blurs/jpeg artifacts on the edges of writing, ink and pen.
I guess this was a misunderstanding, so I'll give you an 8. beegee |

| I really love this shot!. I think the lighting and color are perfect. I like how the written words are just in focus enough to read them. The glare on the drop of ink and the side/ tip of the pen are a tiny distraction - unfortunately I don't have any advice on how to fix that. But the dilema of the score - I am sure you are hearing it a lot. I want badly to give it a ten - but the challenge is pencil - not pen/ink so I am left in an odd situation. This is my favorite shot of the week - but I don't feel it meets the challenge - do I give it 10 or a 1? The rules say I should keep the highest consideration of the challenge in mind when voting??? hmmm not much help there. ok - I will go with an 8. I really do think the shot is great. |

| Ok everyone else has said it too - but I dont see a pencil. It's a lovely shot though. I love the detail, lighting and dof. 7. Would be 9 in a non-pencil challenge. I keep coming back and looking again at this picture. I really WANT to see a pencil. :( Upping my score to an 8. |

Composition - very good
Technical Aspects - quite good
Meets Challenge - doesn't appear to. A pen is not a pencil, and writing looks like a pen.
Visual Impact / Originality ΓΆ€“ high
Other suggestions ΓΆ€“ white balance off a little.

| This is a really great picture, love the dof, love the lighting, but its not a pencil. This would definitely get you at least a 9 if the challenge were "ink drops", "pens", or even "shadows", keep in mind though its a great shot. |

| I'm guessing this is the one with the reflection so I'm scoring it up. I'm sure you knew that people would mark you down for not having an obvious pencil in the shot. I like the lighting and DOF. Beautiful work that probably won't score as well as it should. |

Was hoping I'd get a PM about the pencil thing! Oh well :( I am willing myself to understand and to see the creativity as I think this is a beautiful shot.

| this is a beautifully composed shot, even though i would like the white to be just a little whiter, but that's just my personal opinion. having said that. this is a pen. an ink pen. not a pencil. at least not in my book. so, even though i like the photo itself, i am going to rate you low for not meeting the challenge. sorry. -- gr8photos (2) |

Just because I can't get the reltation to the challenge, doesn't mean this is a great photo. I'm sure you're getting a lot of 'where's the pencil' - but I'll go beyond that and say this is good work. I like the soft lighting and the dof used.

| 'Take your pencil anywhere, do anything you like to it, but make the shot your own. Your photograph must physically contain a pencil: so even though its a nice shot it doesnt meet the challange |
