Cobweb borealisby puzzledComment by macrothing: '6' - Really like this angle and the depth shown for the web 'strands'. I am guessing (perhaps incorrectly) that the 'spots' on the lens are a combination of rain/'flare'. Criticism; those said 'spots', I would like to see them emphasized or 'gone'. The mottled green background is nice, just like to see a sharper focus on the drops (though the 'blur' effect on the ones at the very fore I like) and if possible, some definition of actual rain, especially for the Challenge. |

Sign at an old hardware storeby puzzledComment by puzzled: Originally posted by ubique: I like it too. What does it mean, 'KROKNALEN'? My guess is laundromat. Or maybe Ice Creams. (Bet it doesn't mean 'Hardware", does it?) Either way, it's a very interesting photograph, nice composition and remarkably sharp shadow. I see no reason to prefer a different crop; it looks striking just as it is. |
Haha, you got me to look it up! Glad I did, because my first answer would've been wrong: A "krok" is a hook and a "nål" is a needle. That's true, but a kroknål (one word) is a crochet needle. That's a word I didn't know.
Hmmm, should I change the title to "Sign at an old crochet store?"
Thanks for helping me learn more Swedish. |

Rainbow Road IIby puzzledComment by ubique: Love the clouds with the polarizer. The ISO 800 makes it look like a photograph from the 1950's (I like that too, I'm from the 1950's myself). But what I like most is the very elegant composition, where the road and the horizon meet so casually at the edge of the frame. Simple & very nice. |

Sign at an old hardware storeby puzzledComment by srbrubaker: I like the simple composition, especially the way the shadow echoes the sign so clearly. The bumpy stucco wall adds interest. I also like the close crop (but I tend to crop more tightly than a lot of people at this site.) |

The Roadby puzzledComment by ubique: This is a very beautiful photograph. It's compelling ..,. makes me want to come back to look at it again and again. Why? In reverse order of appeal for me: 5=colours (striking); 4=textures (terrific range of textures, especially love the long grasses by the shoulder of the road); 3=composition (simple, graphic, very "artistic"); 2=je ne sais quois (It's got something I can't describe, but I like it); 1=puzzled (a favourite photographer). |
