Over the Riverby cowboy221977Comment by littlemav: I gave this a 5 in the voteing, it's not a bad shot, it just doesn't grab me, Snaffels nailed it needing something to engage me a little more.. I think even cropping so there is no gravel leading up to the bridge is more intrestring. Put your hand over the buildings on the right and the gravel, to me that is the crop I would've used on this.. That and 5.00 will get you a cup of coffee! |

Over the Riverby cowboy221977Comment by snaffles: Hey Adam, I don't know if you've requested a critique or not on this image, and an official critique will help you too. So let's just call this an expanded comment, based on what work of yours I've seen and/or critiqued.
First off, your photography is definitely improving. You have a much better grasp of the basics and your composition is improving, though in this case the bridge is too centred. Great leading lines, now read up on the rule of thirds! However, one recurring theme seems to linger. This is a set of rails and a bridge, full of atmosphere...but it's like a stage that has been set, and now we're waiting for the play to start. We need action - maybe a buddy and his dog, buddy alone, buddy with girl or buddy with some kind of funky prop - to really engage the viewer. You're good at shooting backdrops as it were, but we need to see more to get those votes up. The set has been dressed as they say, now bring on the actors!
hope this helps, feel free to PM me,

Louisiana Dawnby cowboy221977Comment by chazoe: This is a really good shot. My only nitpick would be to have the entire reflection of the trees in the shot but that would barely effect my scorin of this shot if I were voting on it in a challenge. I really love the subtle and realistic colors, some would up the saturation and IMHO ruin this shot(that includes me a lot of the time BTW) but I think what you did with it was perfect. |
