Yes, exactly right. It was a unique lighting situation. Surrounded by snow with the filtered sunlight over the back of my left shoulder in early afternoon.

The ultra high shutter speed really does allow a unique view of this such pretty bird. I would guess that the snow acted as a giant light box allowing you such a fast shutter speed - really impressive.

What a wonderful capture, although I'm not sure I would really consider the post a distracting element. The head of the bird is on the centerline so I'mm put you down for breaking that rule.
