Camera Work/Technical: Nice focus and excellent depth of field. Self-portraits are always difficult, even when everything is going well. Focus is normally the main challenge, but you overcame that well.
Lighting: You did a pretty good job with the lighting in a tough, indoor situation, but your conversion made it a little flat. There are no harsh shadows and no areas of overexposure. Try to include specific editing steps in your photographer's comments. It helps us out when making suggestions in the critique. I am assuming that you just desaturated the image into grayscale. If you are using Photoshop or elements, try using a Hue/Saturation later, the channel mixer or even LAB color. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM.
Composition/Content: Excellent, and your capture is interesting and creative. The angle you chose for your composition helps the image flow very well to the viewer's eye.
My Opinion: You did a very nice job with both creating a self-portrait and meeting the challenge. With a little more contrast and a slightly better tonal range, this one would have finished even better.

I think it might. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.
First Impression - the most important one:
Great capture .. this epitomises success to me.
Composition:
This is ok ... you have him place squarely on thirds .. and its just a natural type of shot.
Subject:
as mentioned above meets the challenge ... and does with total determination.
Technical (Colour and light):
Natural works best ... often .. and here works great. The focus is a little soft .. but it is hard taking candids and harder when they are moving ... maybe a fast shutter speed would have helped - but not sure ...
To grow its vote?:
I would have tried a tighter crop .. the person on the left and the car are both destractions.
Summary:
this worked ok .. you are learning and applying what you learn ... good work.
If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via
the PM system.
Cheers
