Summer's Last Breathby gg3rdComment by gg3rd: Thank you all for your comments and votes.
This was a last minute submission (I was working in another pic, on which I gave up and tried to work this out), so I knew it would fall short (though did better than I thought).
The flower and its background was not very pretty at all, so in order to hide that, I decided just to keep the petals in color and desaturate the rest (camera feature).
I agree it got oversaturated and it came out more pinky than purple. Also I didn't like the crop myself.
Here's another rendition which I like more (though still too pinky):

Totally Assimilated and (almost) Unnoticedby gg3rdComment by ambaker: Critique Club Review:
Focus is excellent. I would suggest using depth of field to soften the background, as the busy appearance of the building across the street distracts heavily.
I agree with the other commenters that the subject is too centered, and would have been nice to see it lighted.
Color, saturation and hue are done well. Lighting is a bit flat and cool. (Looks like an overcast day.) Though there is some shadow, which if accurate, says high noon, which is a bad time for photos.
Too bad you couldn't stage some bicycles in front of the light pole. That would have further communicated the assimilated theme. |

Summer's Last Breathby gg3rdComment by mycelium: i'm afraid i see mostly pink and very little that might be called purple.
don't understand why you desaturated the middle of the flower. |

Totally Assimilated and (almost) Unnoticedby gg3rdComment by gg3rd: Thank you everyone for voting, specially those who took the time to comment on my very first DPC. They are of great value for me.
I tried to get away from the common ground like the power lines or messy cables, etc (those came first to my mind - and to others too), and do something different and subtle.
This pic was taken on the very last day of the contest and didn't have much time to elaborate or do a better PP.
Again, thanks a lot! |
