GINAby jwillertonComment: Lighting: 1 overhead 6' softbox. 2 kicker lights at 45 degrees each side. 1 Alien Bee (1600) with beauty-dish for the key light & a Lastolite Tri-lite reflector (tri-flector). I also have two large cutters to stop flare.
Lots of time balancing everything and what not... |

CANDICEby jwillertonComment: I find it interesting that it is very obvious from everyone's comments...who has no idea how to take & evaluate a studio portrait and its lighting techniques. But I think I have fooled everyone with my lighting set-up....and I'm keeping it a secret. ha!
This actually did really well...and I'm happy to see so many people liked it as well. I wish it did better...but my hensel lights in my LR just don't have the same spectral range as the main studio...which I shot GINA in:

Master of Ceremoniesby JBHaleComment: Very cool perspective. Fantastic backlighting effect. Too bad the audience looks a little bored...but that isn't your fault. Great work. |

Simply Redby LalliSigComment: Love the eyes. I like how you used the sun and even allowed it to bleed past the subject. Very neat effect. |

pirouetteby krnodilComment: This shot strikes me right away as "elegant" and didn't even come across as IR until I read that from your comments. Everyone seems a little stumped as to how to help on this one. I can't really say I can help either. Perhaps this is because the issue is with your composition, yet the subject itself is very difficult to compose and no one can really visualize how to adjust your camera position. My suggestion is to go back to the plant and move around your camera until you find a nice composition that makes a lot of leading lines and diagonals...this should produce a similar shot that will speak more strongly to viewers.
I hope this helps. |

Tatt Meby ingridblueComment: I think this image had great potential. I like the subject and the girl is very cute...so I don't think that was the real problem. I would like to see the colors improved a little (mentioned below). I am also left wanting a little more sharpness. Lastly, I think if you had just inched over a little to your left the composition would have benefited...I just would like to see a little more of the tattooing. |

Fairy Dustby JuliBocComment: Julianne - I'm not sure I can add any more than what has already been said below. I can understand if this image speaks to you, as I have a few that speak to me but nobody else. Unfortunately, this never translates into a matching score. If you want a better score, reference the below technical comments...but if you are happy with it and I think you are...be proud of it and ignore the narrow opinions that are the majority of DPC voting. |

Sarahby jwillertonComment:
The original image. As you can see...the hair is much more prominent in the color version. |

Sarahby jwillertonComment: I meant that the effect from my lighting is not as prominent when I convert to B&W...and the white background further reduces the effect the lighting has on the image. If the background were black...we would have a slightly different conversation...and the highlights would be even more distracting. |
