Kidyin -- the original was centered, but that composition seemed to be lacking something, and cropping it to make it off center just looked better to me. Rule of thirds, sort of. ;-)
Dave, you're "Under Cover Removal" a few months back on Fred's was a masterpiece (I assume that's the one you're referring to). You must have spent hours setting that up. As per my original comment, I was so pressed for time, I just couldn't reshoot when I realized I had some goofs in the setup.
Mavrik, Goodtempo, Bamaster & Kandyj -- same response, I wish I had had more time to attend to those details.
STEINR -- LOL, you're probably right.

Achiral: The shot was actually taken mid-day in a sunlight room. I partially wrapped the clock and camera with black foam to get the exposure I wanted, and to control reflections. Here's what the setup looks like.
The hardest part of this shot -- aside from the dust -- was focus. Each time I modified the composition, I'd have to wait for the second hand to return to xx:35, and then had to work fast. :-)
e301 -- The clock is the sort that advances to the next second very quickly, then also stops quickly -- that's why you don't really see any motion blur between the seconds.
Swash -- Even though the second hand stops for almost a full second, I still needed to experiment with the angle of the camera so the photo would show enough of a side view. I had a few shots taken from a more vertical angle, and the second hand is hardly visible -- it's too thin. |
