I hope I'm not being presumptuous (or pre-emptive??) by expressing my gratitude to John Setzler for making two recently concluded photo projects, entitled "Alphabet Soup" and "A Picture Alphabet", a resounding success. There were 24 other participating DPCers, who I'm sure would share in that gratitude. (Please, if you're one of them, chime in here...)

John took the initiative approximately 6 months ago to launch and manage the above-mentioned projects. Through a series of DPC forum postings, he coordinated the activities of 26 geographically-distributed DPCers, each of whom contributed one hi-resolution image for each project. The products of these individual efforts were combined by John to produce a couple of very impressive-looking final images, as seen here:

and

(BTW, they look MUCH better as 20 X 30 inch prints! :-)

Over the 6-month period, John had to keep after the participants to hold up their end of the bargain (i.e., send him their images!). In addition, each photographer had to send John a signed release form that allows every photographer participating in the projects to freely market and distribute the final products in unmodified form.

So, this is my "public" thanks to John for his efforts and "stick-to-it-edness" for coordinating these projects.

If you're interested in learning more about the trials and tribulations of the projects, just read through the DPC forum link above. In the end, I'd say it was all worth it - but I wouldn't blame John Setzler if he breathed a huge sigh of relief when it was all over ;-).

Everyone who participated has rights to market and distribute the prints, without modifying them in any way, including John. It's possible that not everyone will choose to do so via DPCPrints.

but if only one person gets to put it in dpcprints .. shoudlnt that have been John?

Seems like since he was the one who got it all together he should have been the one to put it up on dpcprints.

Nice work, and congratulations to all, and especially John, for getting it done.

Hmm...is this a good time to bring up the other projects which have fallen into limbo? I sure would like to move the animal and dog project to finish...

Yes, but I don't believe only one person can sell the print from DPCPrints, ...at least that's what I assumed. If it is the case that only one copy of this can be sold, I'll pull mine and the project team should coordinate how we sell them.

yeah only one person can sell a photo at a time on DPCPrints..

Thanks, Di. Could you please quote the ruling, or place a link to it? I can't locate it within the DPCPrints FAQ.

I"ll leave it up to you to talk to John about it ...

John thanks a lot for putting up this great project...
I think you had hard times and good times... But at the end here is the result of a great time of effort and work... If it wasn't for you there would not be this beautiful thing we all accomplished together.
It was a pleasure to do this with you leading the pack. Hope someday you will come up with another ideia and hope i can be there to help you.
Thanks to everyone how helped make this possible...
Overal a big thanks to everyone. :)

My question has nothing to do with John. How do you know that only one person can upload a copy of an image for sale in DPCPrints? If anyone else here can show me where it states this, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I know that someone else tried to put it up on dpcprints and was told no because you already had ...

that person can come forward if they choose...but that person is very reliable.

We'll have to talk to the admins about it, because while we each have an equal right to sell it, it sems stupid to have 26 copies of these big files there, and 26 people competing for sales.

But unless we all agree to a standardized price and develop a way to divide up the 50% photographer's share, I don't think there's an alternative.

Please tell that reliable person to go ahead. I've just pulled mine.

exactly General and I feel its wrong for one person only to take the profits from it and advertize its there here in the forums. Any sales of the picture should be put on hold until admin makes a decision on this. Its still my opinion that John should be the one who should have it on DPCPrints as he did all the post-processing and pre-photography work.

I just put mine up on DPCPrints. They got approved a few days ago but I never went back to check until today. I'm not sure what decision was made about multiple users selling the same prints, but I'm assuming it's ok since mine got approved as well as Len's.

Anyway...

I'm glad it's finished. As for future projects, I just don't know. This one proved to be a lot more difficult than it should have been. I would love to do another one, but I seriously doubt I would coordinate another one with more than just a few participants. I discussed an idea a while back with bear_music that I am still thinking about, but I need to talk to him again sometime in the near future to see if he's still interested in the idea.

Thanks for the compliments and I'm glad everyone seems to be happy with the results....

John Setzler

Put them back up... there is some confusion about the information you are receiving here :)

I just priced mine the same way Len had his priced. Seems standard and fair enough for me...

I originally uploaded the files so that I could get large copies of them made for personal gifts. In fact I just received 20 X 30 inch prints of each today (they're beautiful!). I really hadn't thought through the implications of placing them for sale, and have thus pulled them. Competition is good, but not among ourselves... :-)
