Yep! I'm under 5 too...4.76 actually...
I haven't entered too many competitions, but its hard to find time to shoot when I'm a full time college student taking sports pics for the yearbook! Unfortuantely, most sports pics don't fit in challenge categories! Oh well...still fun!

Having fun is what matters!
Also since you're a member you could enter the free studies with the sports pics! I'm sure they'd be exciting to see.

Just a note to let you all know that I'll be staying here awhile :). My entry in the rule of thirds challenge is pretty much gauranteed to keep me under 5.... (thought I knew what the "rule of thirds" was... i should've looked it up! big ooops!)

hmmm... :( ... i'm stuck in a major rut right now... i haven't entered two challenges in a row and the next one i enter i want to be really artistic and have meanings, etc. i'm out of inspiration :( ... all of my ideas for the challenges have either been too grand for me to be able to pull off, or too simple for me to want to waste my time. :( ... *seeking good vibes*

I know what you mean about the grand ideas. I'm often like ohhhh this wonderful concept ooooohhh happy bounce oh wait I don't think I can actually DO that. LOL.

As far as the simple ideas though. Don't feel like that's wasting your time! It's always good experience to take and process a photo, right? Even if it doesn't feel like it's "good enough" for the challenge, you'll still get something out of doing it if you focus on the good things.

While the main challenges are good, they are definatley an ego killer. So I've been doing the 30 day portrait challenge, and am signed up for the 30 day B&W. I've learned a lot more from them.

Isn't it when family activities are dictated by the whims of the youngest child ... : )

Many thanks Jackal, things in photography are looking up for me at the moment, there is a possibility that I am going to become a trainee for a photography company that specialises in action shots at sporting events.

And your signature looks so cool I decided to copy it :-P

Awesome! Sounds like fun, where do I sign up??? LOL. Good luck!!

Muppet you can do a 30 day and post your pictures elsewhere, there was at least one who did in the portrait challenge.

Thought you all might like to see a thread I just wrote... maybe it'll be a little encouraging.

He he he.

For something completely different, in my signature previously I use the golden brigade as well as the au5. I thought with au being the symbol for gold, it was the same thing. To my horror I discovered differently and have removed the reference to the golden brigade. My apologies.

Oh no problem! :-)

Hey folks, got a 5.61 for my April free study image, that is the highest free study score of mine yet, beating out a 5.4 something for burning rivalry, which was also taken with my Alpha. Seems like my new camera is making a slight difference to my scores, also, I am paying a LOT more attention to what I am doing.

Oh congrats!!! That's a nice shot.
Paying attention is always a good thing.. it seems so obvious but can be really hard to do at times.

Thanks, I wanted to show the light of the city but ended up having the highlights too bright, didn't know how to fix it without it looking strange, I'm content.

Hey y'all :) Pardon me for 'butting' in but I have a question. Are there ever any challenges (besides 'minimal editing') for "point and shoot" cameras only? If this isn't the right forum for this question, please be gentle .

I've only been a DPC member for only a few months and have only entered 1 challenge so far. I have voted in a few and tend to lean more toward what I personally like but haven't left many comments mainly because I don't feel qualified. As y'all might have guessed/noticed, I'm DSLR-deprived. I think my hesitancy in submitting more pictures is quite simply my lack of understanding the various levels of editing. I know they're written in English but it all looks like Klingon to me.

Thank you for allowing me to submit my question here and then ramble like the South's "National" plant, Kudzu.

I didn't have a DSLR when I started here either Judie.

You can enter ANY challenge you want. There is a lot you can do in post processing to make a picture better. Two of my top 5 finishes were with a FujiFinePix.

Hi all...... I just had to share.... I sold 5 framed prints at a festival this past weekend! & my daughter, dimples, sold 3 of hers. We were really excited about it, & this is the most I've sold so far. I was also thinking of the previous posts on p&s cameras, which is all we have. I was going to get a dslr, I was at the store about to purchase it, but realized I want to wait at least another year. I'm just not ready & I am comfortable with my little p&s cameras for now. However, I received numerous compliments... & from a few professionals too. I told them what type of cameras I used. They all agreed that it's not always the type of camera that matters, but whether or not you got the shot you wanted.
- I also had so many people mention Andrew Wyeth (painter) when looking at my photos.... which I am honored to be compared to (tried not to let my head get too big!)... not to mention the amount of people who liked my doors & windows..... which made me feel a bit more normal. I don't know why I am attracted to them... but I just really like doors & windows! Anyway, it made me feel good & I wanted to share with you guys :)
