There is a setting in your preferences that you can set that to be if you wish it to be. You didn't have to explain your voting structure to everyone. You're in your right to vote the way you feel. As much as we are in our right to disagree. |

Yeah, I thought that option was set.
I simply shared the average and others asked questions. Not the norm to share such, but seems to be becoming so.
And yes, not everyone will vote correctly like me :) (A JOKE FOLKS)

I'm not sure I understand why people vote in private. It all comes out eventually anyway.
I appreciate your sharing your trends. I find it interesting. I'll do the same when I've finished voting.

Would of made things a bit more interesting perhaps. Seems like many of the entries only used advanced anyway. |

Yeah. The editing rules, for the most part as we learnt, only open up more tools that can be used, but doesn't demand they be used.
Still, I was afraid to enter it, partially for a lack of imagination, and mostly for a lack of skill!

There were about 33 that were either DNMC or just photos of a statue or other artwork -- if they took the statue, toy, art, or whatever and made a scene from it, then that's too too cool and qualifies to me. If they just stood there, took a photo of someone else's work of art, then bzzt... scored low. [/quote]
What he said...have to agree fully, though I didn't give out anything under 5.

Yes I know that Judi, but Shannon scalvert said that the cracked mud on the face would be OK and that was taken out of the time limit also. There's no prob here - I'm just letting everyone know why the image will disappear from the challenge |

Quite frankly I too was surprised by the entries. I think that it was a very difficult challenge and it was my first try at expert editing .. my score is below my average which is fine, I took this challenge as a way to learn.
But, the number of entries that didn't appear to have worked very hard to meet the challenge meant that my average scores given out are less than my usual .. not by much,
On my first go through I ended up with an average vote given 5.3 and change. I am a very lenient voter and am aware of people's equipment not being high end .. and lack of software and the children involved so I keep my votes decently high and reward what I think are the best with 8-9 & 10s. That's why I went by and adjusted up.
Here is what I voted .. I haven't made any comments yet but will;
You have rated 83 of 85 images (98%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 5.8795. |

Should the use of expert tools encourage a better score?

Up to you, the voter really. I did a very amateurish job on my entry, so used it more as an excuse to exercise and develop PS skills, which I don't really have. Happy with the result despite the trolls. |

Bleh, all that PP work to get slowly roasted with all the Slaughterhouse Five's aaaaannnnddd just got hit with a '4' (Oh really! *sarcastic tone*).
At about 30 sitting pretty at 6.2222 then old age starting creeping it that by 69 it is thus:
Avg Vote: 5.6522
Comments: 2
So with double digit hours spend I then fell in love with the work which is/can be said the 'kiss of death':-( Ah well, I got two great comments such that least two other thought it was great:-)

I've learnt on my potato entry that getting a low score isn't bad at all. The bad votes that you might get in a good entry are your average votes in a bad entry. So you end up being far happier! :)

Not at all - that was neither the intent or the wording of my post.
In expert editing it stands to reason that people who are familiar with pro editing tools have a better chance at a higher score. I try to level the playing field by NOT penalizing people who don't.
I look at things like composition and effort. If someone doesn't have all the bells and whistles, these things will still shine through.
If they lack effort that too will shine through and I will give a 4 or a 5 vote - I think I have given out 3 or under maybe 10 times since 2006. (my membership date is incorrect).
edited to add - I have good tools but I don't know how to use them well and my score reflects that too.
But I had fun and learned a few things too.

Cool. That makes sense.
But one might put forward the argument of why enter an expert editing competition without using expert tools.
An analogy might be why go to a multiplication exam and do the multiplication with successive addition. Though, with that analogy I suppose so long as you get the right answer it doesn't matter.
Right. I'll be doing what you say.

I have good tools and chose not to use them because I like my entry exactly the way it is (yes, my score shows it). If this had been basic editing maybe I'd be winning.... he he he. |

I think people should enter to learn - my son uses gimp .. it's free and quite remarkable what you can do with it .. he animates 2D things he makes and has taught himself a lot. Enough to get published in an online game.
I just like to learn and have fun - and vote in that spirit. |

Yeah Penny, I hear you .. I often do basic editing when it's advanced because I like the look of my entry .. I just thought I would stretch my wings on this one .. needless to say, they got clipped (grin) |

I downloaded gimp a few days ago. I used layers for the first time then too. And what burning meant.
