If you use Lightroom, you can create a camera profile for each of your cameras using this. Then you use that instead of the Adobe Standard in camera settings, and your results will be much better. You don't have to create a profile everytime, but in tricky lighting, it can be handy. That may also work in PS's RAW converter as well, but I use LR for RAW files.
If you photograph it in your target lighting, it can also be used to warm/cool or otherwise adjust the colors from a shoot. However, I mainly use the profile it creates for each of my cameras.
X-Rite has a tutorial on it...it's free but they require an email address/login.

Hmmm, LR already has a camera profile for me.... As I said, I know a lot of folks swear by these, but I have yet to run into a situation where I felt my current software couldn't handle my needs. Could be I'm just too ignorant ;) |

Horses for courses, I say. If you were doing product photography for clothing, for instance, you would probably feel differently. For myself, that kind of color accuracy is not at all a requirement. It's more about what I feel represents the scene. Sounds like it is much the same for you.

Yup. I think that's the case. I just wasn't sure if I was missing something. I can definitely see it's application in product/catalog photography |

I was looking at Amazon deal of the day (need a small gift for gift exchange on N.Y.E.):
This peaked my interest...could it be a good mirrorless camera at greatly discounted price?
Mystery Digital Camera and Accessories
Guess what it is?
Ah, spoiler in the user comments on Amazon...they at least seem pretty sure they know what it is.

For those who do not have Canon 6D, I think this would help to do remote shutter from your cell phone!

Hiking on rough terrain? Want to be able to move around without the camera swinging?
This is a great deal. I paid about 3 times this for this kit. Downside: You will look weird with it on. But it works well.
Cotton Carrier with side holster: $69.95 deal of the day, today only!

Great heads up. The Series 2 are the Benro equivalent of the MeFoto Roadtrip that I use all the time. It's an excellent tripod and I may just pick up the Carbon Fiber equivalent and stick the regular in the back of my car so I don't have to think about tossing one in when I go out.
Thanks Neil!! |

It's a very decent travel tripod. We have one of the 13.2 lb models, the smaller one. My only beef is that it's a bit of a chore to unscrew and reset 12 different leg locks plus a column lock each time you set it up. Flip locks are much easier. But then again, that's what makes it a "travel" tripod; the ability to be small :-) |

Woot has a Lowepro camera backpack up today for $59.99. Haven't researched to see how good a deal it is.

Lowepro Backpack |
LowePro sells 'em for roughly $160.00... B&H has 'em discounted to $74.95 (from 149,95) at the moment. So it's a good deal. BUT it's not really a camera pack; it's designed for sport backpacking, with a compartment to hold a DSLR with a kit-size lens mounted; the rest of it is devoted to backpacking (or daypacking) needs... |

Giveaway of the day has standalone/plugin focus stacking software today for free.

I haven't tried it and compared it to PS CC's focus stacking, but it does appear to support a lot of options. Works stand-alone or as a plugin. For free, today only, worth a try if you do a lot of focus stacking! |

Well, I grabbed it and installed it. I'll try it soon...
ETA: Extraordinary! Who knew how lacking PS was in that regard? I guess those of you who already have dedicated software for the job... Anyway, the alignment is much better, there's a tremendous amount of customization possible, effects you can dial in, all sorts of stuff. Great software so far! I did a quick remerge of this 6-image PS merge, and there were NO visible flaws to correct. There was a lot of pasting and cloning to clean up the PS one you see here.
I'm not posting the new one because I haven't really worked on the image processing, I was playing with variables...

Doesn't say on the linked page but, as I suspected, though it will work on several Windows systems it takes an Intel-Mac and OS 10.7+ ... :-( |
