*sigh* Still life is not one of my own preferred subjects, nor one I consider myself good at. I'll need some inspiration for this. Perhaps I should take this as my opportunity to do some wine glasses...
Nah. |

What's with the run of black and white? Not complaining, I like it far more than the DPColourful we usually see, just curious! |

True. I just need to give it some thought and get some inspiration. Once I have that good idea, I think I can do well with it. |

Right. You can photograph a white and black object with no conversion.
Like my Minimalism entry. This was shot in colour and still is in colour. ;)

a still life is NOT a product shot. Product shots will feel the WRATH OF ONE |

Why? It's still. Appears to be a fuzzy line between a still life and product shot. How do you draw the line?

I don't have to draw the line. The two things are clearly defined and very different. |

Uh, huh. Just as in the two "missed focus" challenges, where the difference between focus and motion blur was clearly defined and no confusion was possible. Plenty of motion blur entries that I voted low, but somehow still scored highly in spite of not fitting the challenge in any way.
If I do a still life of a coffee maker and coffee, is that a still life or a product shot? |

Depends if you put a flower & tablecloth in there.
eta: Personally, I've never taken a good still life because I just can't get the concept.

The roach would have to be dead. Sorry. |

The concept of still life is pretty different than DPC's concept of still life. From Wikipedia:
A still life (plural still lifes[1]) is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural (food, flowers, plants, rocks, or shells) or man-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewelry, coins, pipes, and so on) in an artificial setting.
Pretty wide ranging, though I would imagine to do well on DPC it will need to be a muted fruit basket on a chequered table cloth type shot. |

A still life is a beautiful image created by placing objects. The composition must make full use of the frame.
A product shot is an image of a beautiful object. The composition is centered and boring. |

The world is black, the world is white
It turns by day and then by night
A child is black, a child is white
The whole world looks upon the sight, a beautiful sight
or...
Unravel me
a distant cord
on the outside is forgotten
a constant need
To get along
and the animal awakens
and all I feel is black and white

Here's a link to the scoring thread from Still Life V.
It had a lively discussion regarding what "Still Life" entailed/is/was.
