Hey there,
It seems that my camera is not shooting in RAW format. I do have it selected to do so in the menu and I am shooting in the creative mode.

When I check out my camera through my computer the files just aren't there- no DCMI (or whatever that file is called). Only the 101, 102 files for my jpegs.

Any help would be appreciated!!!!

What happens when you try to copy all the files from you CF card to your computer?
05/27/2005 02:28:45 PM · #3
the wizard pops up & only jpgs download...
05/27/2005 02:29:46 PM · #4
Wizard?

What does standard Windows Explorer tell you about what's actually on the card?
05/27/2005 02:34:05 PM · #5
explorer tells me no CR2 files at all. only file folders named 101 or 102
and they are full of jpegs.
oh and by the way I did try to reformat my CF card but that didn't work either...

To see whether this is a windows issue or a camera issue have you tried accessing the card using the Canon software?

When you say you are shooting in the "Creative Mode", exactly which mode are you shooting in? P?

It sounds to me like you were shooting full-auto (green square), and that doesn't save RAW.

Zoombrowser is what I was thinking of. What does DPP see on the card?

Use the EOS Viewer software that came with your camera.

I love this site and you guys are such a hlep.
I see the RAW files now but I can't make any adjustments. But I believe this is because I have to little RAM on my computer (sigh) unfortunately I can't remedy that...

thank you everyone!

please tell me if that is the right diagnosis and if there is anything i could do?

When you say you can "see" the CR2 files now, what software are you using to see them? How are you trying to edit them?
05/27/2005 03:24:33 PM · #14
Use the Digital Photo Professional that came with your camera to edit the raw image and then save to jpeg.
05/27/2005 03:33:01 PM · #15

I can see the RAW format in my EOS viewer (it says raw+jpeg) but nothing comes up in the raw adjustment box.
If I download they do so only as jpeg.
If I open DPP I can't even see the camera to get to the raw images..
arrrgghhh!!!

oh and if i right click on the image in EOS viewer the only option highlighted is erase images

I can't believe someone posted this!! I was getting ready to!

SAME PROBLEM!! NO RAW FILES. They are showing up as RAWs in Windows Explorer, but when I open them in PS CS, I see only jpegs, no raws. When I go to Windows Explorer and double click on one of the raws, PS says "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of file".

windows wizard will not transfer RAW files as they are not recognised as Image files.

Are you using a card reader or using the camera's cable? Should have no problem with a card reader, though I don't know about with the cable--the camera doesn't register as an external drive, but rather a connected device. Use a card reader.

LOL then I guess you don't have any advice for me eh?
05/27/2005 04:41:36 PM · #22
nope no card reader... can that be it tho?
05/27/2005 04:45:06 PM · #23
MY photos are on the hard drive, I am not transferring them. And I am not trying to open them with windows wizard, I am trying to open them with photoshop cs, but no go. I think MY problem might be PS.

@oOWonderBreadOo: MY camera IS taking RAW's, I just can't see them in photoshop. When you download your files, and look at them in Windows Explorer, can you see the RAW files then?
05/27/2005 04:48:59 PM · #24
no- I can't see them in explorer, only in EOS viewer but I can't adjust them or have any control.

If CS can't open the RAW file, you need to update the Adobe RAW converter. You should have v 2.4 of the converter. If you have an earlier version, download 2.4 from the Adobe website and install it. That shoudl clear up the problem with the 20D RAW files.
Note that for some more recent cams (D70s, 350D) CS will never support them, since the RAW convereter for CS is no longer being updated.
