You need to be a little more specific. What program are you looking for? I photo editing program, or software to download photos from the camera?

Does it not recognize the printer, or does it not recognize your photo editing program ??

I think the person might be talking about their HP PhotoSmart CAMERA, rather than printer. I have a HP PhotoSmart camera (and HP printer), and windows XP, and I use a photoediting program called PhotoImpressions, and then also the software that came with the camera (and printer) is called HP PhotoImaging. If you goto the HP website, you can get a number to call and order a free disc that will be compatible with XP. I had to do this also. I got the camera, used it with Win98, then got a new comp and couldn't use either the printer or the camera with XP. HP will be more than happy to send you their upgraded software that is compatable with XP. I didn't have to pay for it, the sent it free, and if was overnight!! Hope I understood you correctly. ~Heather~

Ok...I found a link to where you can go to find software updates. This will let you know what new software is available for your product that will be compatable with XP. When you get to this screen, just type in your product, and it will search for you. If you can't find it here, you can also try the general search. HP Software Updates Hope this helps. ~Heather~

Remember, you can always buy a memory card reader, it may be easier.

It's absolutely easier -- I don't think I've ever attached my camera to the computer. USB lets me plug into my Windows PC or Mac laptop. LaCie has just released one for about $40 US which takes almost every type of memory device so it will remain useable if you upgrade or change cameras.
Another option if you want portability and have $$$ is one of the portable digital devices (e.g. Archos multimedia) which has a hard drive and ports in a portable device (think portable cassette player). You can copy gigabytes of data to a device which fits in a small purse. |
