During the nesting season the female ptarmigan lies on the nest, almost invisible, in her perfect camouflage. Meanwhile the male, still in winter plumage, stands guard some distance away and tries to distract possible predators or egg thieves.
By the way, I tried hard to find the nest, but without luck.

Gosh the voters were harsh on you. A lot of the time, the effort involved in wildlife shots don't pay off in scores. But you can ignore that and just continue with what you enjoy.
