Living in SoCal is a paradise, with many, many charms and advantages. Except for rain. We don't get a lot of that. Which to be honest, is why I moved here...
So I automatically knew that I would have to "make" rain for this challenge. And I knew exactly what I was going to do and how I was going to do it. I think I was channeling some Magritte, and a bit of Coley for this one :-)
It also really helps (a lot) to have a very handy sweetie, with a garage full of tools and things to help me realize all my hair-brained ideas. I told him what I had in mind and he provided me with all the tools and supplies.
Then I spent a day putting together my raining umbrella. Yes, a shower head watering tool would also have worked, but we didn't get one until way after the shoot, and I wasn't going to try this all again... In the final image, it was raining much heavier on the right than on the left, so I had to dodge the heck out of the drops on the left to balance the image.
Lidia was SUCH a trooper, and really gave me the emotion I was looking for in this surreal, dramatic take on rain. The shoot didn't last very long, but even at this reduced resolution, you can see the goosebumps on her legs :-)
I lit this from behind via the stairway, and with two lights on either side of her. My ideal edit removed the shadows on the right, but fear of DQ made me just reduced them for DPC. This is likely not going to do well, as it isn't your "typical" rain image, and DPC seems to prefer "typical". But I just love it.
[POST CHALLENGE]
Pleased this finished in the tt, but I guess my "metaphoric" rain mystified many voters, LOL! I meant for it to only rain under the umbrella :-)

Make it rain baby!!! I love this shot. The only reason I gave this a 7 and not an 8 or 9 was because the rain is only visible from under her umbrella making it appear contrived. I still think it's awesome I'm just trying to be constructive.
