(1) COMPOSITION (CONTENT) – If the subject was only the barn, then this is very good. However, for a landscape shot, you have the barn too large and prominent in the photo. This would have been much better if you expanded the photo on the right side, keeping the barn on the left side. Then, with the apparent downhill slope, the eye would start on the left, and follow the road and fence down and right. I don’t mind the centered horizon, as the barn is below center.
(2) BACKGROUND – The cloudy skies are a nice plus to this shot.
(3) CAMERA WORK ,TECHNICAL – Focus and DOF are good. Given the shutter speed you posted, you had more room to pick a smaller aperture (eg f/22) and get better DOF. I don’t know if your camera has an exposure compensation feature you should have used (see below).
(4) DIGITAL PROCESSING ,TECHNICAL – I think this should have brightened in Photoshop ( or the like) using the levels command. With the snow, your camera probably underexposed the original that you should have corrected for. The shadows show, so there is plenty of sun.
(5) MY OPINION ON THE PHOTO – A good picture of a barn that would have become a very good landscape with 1) more area on the right, and 2) a brightening of the picture.

Kind of a dreary day, but I like the colors. The darkness works for me. Focus and clarity are great, and the angle and framing/cropping are good as well. I like how you have included the road in the pic, and the fence also. Nice shot. Good luck in the challenge.

Nice photo. Perhaps you could consider a slightly wider shot (to include more of the road and show where the barn is).

Absolutely beautiful shot. I'm not sure about DOF. It could have been better or maybe I just need new glasses ;-) Cub

When I saw the thumbnail of this I thought, wow cool, it looks like a painting... then when I made it bigger I still thought it looked pretty neat, but I also saw a few minor problems with it that really bother me. For one, I think the angle you took this at kind of gave it a tilted look. Also I'm not sure the horizon is completely straight... Turning this in photoshop or a similar program might have helped with that. I don't mind the fact that you have the roadsign or the road in there... they add the modern look... but maybe you should have worked to keep from shooting the telephone pole coming out of the right side of the barn or house... that is fairly disturbing to me. Otherwise this is a really cool photo, and I gave it a 7. Good luck!

good detail. feels a little centered and close to the barn for me.

The sky helps make this scene look colder, like the curves and straight lines accentuated by the inclusion of the roads, and the depth of field. Like the fence shadows, too on the snow. It all looks a bit dark to me, though.

Wonderful image! IMHO...I would have cropped a bit of the sky out and tighted up the right side to exclude the yellow road markings. Good luck!

I feel it would be a better landscape picture if you had shown a bit more of the road as it goes away from the barn.

I think a little more road, and shifting the barn a touch to the left, would have given it a more balanced feeling for me.
