Loved this shot. The rusted areas where water has followed it's path down the statue really tell the story. And his passive resigned expression is perfect. What I just now noticed is the crop. If you get in a lot tighter on his face, the water drops look like sweat pouring from his face giving him a very live human feel.

Yeah...seems not everybody liked it so much. Keep shoting.

The inclusion of the water droplets really makes this great. 9.

Very crisp and clean. I like the stop action. Did you try it with a slow shutter speed? I bet it would even take this one over the edge. Good job! 8

I normally don't care at all for images of statues, but have recently added one to my portfolio myself, though it doesn't compare to this. I did rate this a 9 but am changing it to a 10. The capture of those sharply defined water droplets turn this into your own work of art, rather than a photo of someone else's statue. I've never seen anything quite like it, it's simply superb. 10

excellent capture. the focus, colors, exposure, and lighting all come together. you can almost feel the eternal effort. good luck with the challenge!
10/06/2004 10:59:58 PM
I don't think the Greeks or Romans or whoever had to worry about rusty pipes
10/06/2004 02:24:50 PM
I guess it's a fountain. I wish it was more obvious. Great capture of the waterdrops :)
10/06/2004 11:03:48 AM
Nice stop action shot freezing the water drops. The smooth texture of the statue looks like it was processed through Neat Image but I'm probably wrong as marble tends to have that texture. Colors and contrast are excellent. 9
10/06/2004 01:21:27 AM
good pic, seems to hold so much emotion - well done
10/05/2004 10:04:25 PM
Very nice - good job - that's all I can say ! 10

Good clear focus, nice catching of the water droplets, technically a wonderful shot, good composition on the man holding the, what is he holding? Cutting off the top leaves me wanting. Also just a tad more contrast would really help this pop, a 7
10/05/2004 11:28:56 AM
Nice capture of the water. Good use of cropping that emphasizes the weight.
10/05/2004 11:13:52 AM
The water takes this picture from average to good.
10/05/2004 10:07:14 AM
Technically this is very good. The choice of subject matter bores me. It is a very good representation of a work of art---I could see this being in a travel log. I just think it is kind of 'ho-hum' for this challenge.
10/04/2004 11:44:06 PM
Interesting choice for this challenge. The stop action is perfect.
10/04/2004 07:45:20 PM
The frozen water drops works well. The shades of color are nice.
10/04/2004 05:30:12 PM
Wow, fast shutter speed. The composition here is great! The only thing that I can see as a fault is the lighting. It might have worked better if it were a bit brighter? I don't know. It's a great picture. 8
10/04/2004 03:09:57 PM
This is a wonderful fountain study. The texture is well captured and the rust gives it that timeless feel. The frozen in space of the water droplets adds the sense of motion to an otherwise static figure. Bumping up.
10/04/2004 01:27:45 PM
Good capture of the water coming down on the statue. I like the contrast of the subject from the background. 7
10/04/2004 10:26:16 AM
Strong points: Composition is nice as is the exposure. The shutter speed was fast enogh to freeze action in the water. Suggestions for improvement: Although it's technically an excellent image, it doesn't have much wow for me. Perhaps a different subject?
10/04/2004 09:40:25 AM
Nice but I think it might have looked nicer if the speed was longer and have the sensation of water movement instead of freezing the water. Sorry not a winner
10/04/2004 08:17:23 AM
Nice isolation of a detail of a larger part, I wonder how big this statue is. The water drops around it add some context.
10/03/2004 10:15:34 PM
I like the sharp and clear capture of the water. More water would have been more effective imho, but that may not have been possible.
10/03/2004 04:52:58 PM
Very nice shot, good capture of the water, but maybe it'd be best in BW? Great statue, though, and a nice photo! Thanks!
10/03/2004 03:37:07 PM
Interesting, i like the stop motion water drops. Nice clarity, composition and lighting.7
10/03/2004 01:14:04 PM
I like the subject and the POV, but I find the frozen waterdrops look a bit out of place. I wonder if a long exposure would have helped. -5
10/03/2004 09:18:03 AM
:) very good... love the faling water drops... and tired expression on guys face. Pitty about dark spots on his hands. Good luck!
10/03/2004 08:06:09 AM
This is really well done with a good eye to start. Colors and lighting are great. Everything is perfect, except that there might be a few too many water drops, as they distract ever so slightly. Even with that, this is one of my top picks of the challengeso far.
10/03/2004 08:05:14 AM
Interesting close up crop. The discoloration on the statue and water droplets really make this an interesting compostion. 6
10/03/2004 07:40:52 AM
Nice stop action on the water, and good dof on the figure. Maybe to centered for me.
10/03/2004 06:48:22 AM
This shot doesn't do much for me, the stopped water droplets are nice but I don't think you've made the most of them. I think the main problem for me is that in major cities you can see statues like this everywhere, and there's nothing in this photo that makes me see them in a new way. To me, this is a bit of a snapshot photo. I don't think the grimy colours and textures on the arms help. 4
10/03/2004 04:07:09 AM
Interesting image and nice job capturing the water drops.
10/03/2004 12:10:07 AM
I really like this photo except for one thing.. it's smoothed out a little tooo much for my tastes. I think, given the subject, that it was probably purposeful, but I don't really like the effect too much. Your angle, lighting, and the capture of the water drops are all wonderful though. 8
10/02/2004 07:10:01 PM
I like the frozen capture of water. Seems like a good candidate for a black and white, lots of good contrast.
10/02/2004 04:16:50 PM
There's something about this that I really like! I am trying to imagine what the whole statue looks like, this may be what it is, making me think more about the whole image.

Good shutter speed to get the water and good lighting! 8
10/02/2004 03:43:53 PM
There are probably some people who will knock you for submitting a photo of someone else's art but I think you have captured something interesting about the fountain sculpture. I like the low point of view shooting up and the fast exposure freezing the water drops into little jewels. great color, exposure and sharpness.
10/02/2004 03:35:16 PM
Beautiful focus and lighting. Composition right on as well. Good shot.
10/02/2004 03:14:36 PM
Beautiful focus...pinpoint sharpness.
Colours and tones are wonderful.
10/02/2004 02:41:35 PM
A nice shot of this fountain. The water droplets add to the attractiveness of the picture.
10/02/2004 09:46:09 AM
this is a lovely photo, its just slightly off putting with the colour on the arms on the left hand side of this statue... i love the details on the water droplets and my only concern comes with the colour which unfortunately is unavoidable... gr8 photo though overall
10/02/2004 08:22:34 AM
At first glance, I didn't like this shot, but now looking at it I think it's one of the best of the challenge! The only complaint I have, and it's minor, is that the area behind him is a little dark, but tat is probably out of your control. I love the stopped water, though this is just a thought since I've not attempted this picture, but what, to fit the title, you left the shutter open for longer and had that blurred water effect? I dunno, just a thought. I love the shot as it is, too. 8
10/02/2004 06:01:39 AM
i feel his pain. good shot
10/02/2004 02:51:18 AM
A very different image nice detaill although the face looks soft focus
It is hard to judge such a wide varity of images because all are good in their own way and your shows originality
Good luck
10/02/2004 01:50:44 AM
This is beautiful and extremely well taken. It just doesn't speak to me like some of the others. 9.
10/02/2004 12:54:58 AM
i love this. the passage of time, the weathering, the sadness, the beauty, art, all of it. captured. a definite 10. hope it wins.
10/01/2004 07:53:13 PM
Like it!

Great capture of all the tiny water droplets, masterfully done! Beautiful subject.
10/01/2004 05:46:46 PM
nice capture - you made the composition your own rather than just being documentary of the sculpture
10/01/2004 03:56:15 PM
nice photograph....looks almost surreal
10/01/2004 03:06:24 PM
Cool subject... good job keeping the shutter speed nice and short to get nice, defined drops but keeping the subject sharp from front to back, even with the wide aperture required for the shot. The smooth, white marble, transitioning to a darker color looks almost like the water bearer is coming to life in real flesh through the marble, particularly around the shoulder.
10/01/2004 07:47:43 AM
This has fantastic depth with the water and the brown discoloration and the marble...The composition is stunning, the light is perfect, there is a busy quality about the top 1/6 of the photo but the contrast adn depth is excellent. All these qualities only speak to the fact that you are a master among masters. Does this lack the emotive message that would send it soaring above the other photos? maybe. Even still its top notch.
10/01/2004 07:34:47 AM
This is a nice shot, but I think the water droplets look a little be strange just stopped in mid air. Since your title is 'through time' and it's a smooth statue, I think a long exposure creating water streams would look really good with the subject matter. At the moment there is nothing that really interests me in the photo. 5
10/01/2004 02:02:57 AM
Different from what I have seen so far, very nice.
