 This was shot at Seattle's Independence Day celebration over Lake Union. It was a fun shoot save for having to dodge the goose poop in the grass :P Unfortunately, I already showed possibly my best images for the event on Facebook before entering here. So I went with this rather aggressive capture nobody had seen prior to this challenge.

*I had to compress the heck out of this image to get under the 300k limit which is totally silly with the contemporary cost of online storage- me thinks.

Love the explosive energy filling the entire frame. Love the dwarfed silhouettes giving a sense of massive scale. Love the crisp lines and vibrant colour. 10. (Sharing top place with one other.)

Nice picture but part of me thinks it would be a bit more dramatic with a tighter shot on one of the people standing on the mast using rule of thirds

well, this is certainly a cluster-bomb of light (and if you were there, sound). it's a tad busy, but i love the silhouetted people in the rigging (or whatever the proper nautical term is, if rigging isn't right).
then again, without the business of the scene, the silhouette may be lost entirely, so it's a hard sell to take any points away.

Ah, Brent. Couldn't resist DPC's siren song, eh? :)

I fully expect this to be on the front page, with a ribbon. Not only the perfectly exposed bursts, but the silhouettes on the masts give the enormity of the bursts a stupendous context. Plus the whole sailing from the old world connection.... just a killer image.
