Challenge: Selfie! (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Olympus OM-D E-M5
Lens: Rokinon 7.5mm f/3.5 Ultra Wide-Angle Fisheye Lens for Micro 4/3
Location: Houston, TX
Date: Aug 7, 2014
Aperture: 5.6
ISO: 800
Shutter: 1/1000
Date Uploaded: Aug 7, 2014

Had this idea for a selfie. Fisheye lens, camera set to 2 second self timer, toss it in air and see what you get.

took about 150 shots to get a couple where it was framed well. Most shots were of the sky or off to the side as it was very difficult to keep the camera oriented right while getting enough height on the toss.

Caught the camera every time!

[Aug. 14th, 2014 11:10:07 AM]

Last day of voting and still hanging on to a 7, barely!

A couple of comments suggested that I didn't really throw the camera in the air. I have over 100 outtakes to prove it!
The lens wouldn't stay pointing down most of the time, so a lot of the images me in the corner, or not in the frame at all, or entirely sky because the lens was pointing up when the shutter fired.

This lens is a manual focus lens, so with it set to F5.6 (on m4/3 that's the DOF equivalent of F11), and preset the focus to about 12 inches, everything from 6 inches to infinity is in focus.

This was actually a test session on the final day to enter to see if it would even work. I was going to go downtown and get buildings in the background, but I really liked the contrast on the green grass.

I am happy with the comments and the score. We'll see if it's enough for the front page! There are 3 or 4 entries in there that are really good.

Here are a few of the outtakes showing how the camera rarely kept the position I wanted!

If you actually DID throw your camera up into the air... then you don't deserve this ribbon. Ha!

I would have secured it above and then hit the timer button.

Congratulations anyway! LOL!

I thought about this, but I'm not a good catch! And I can't imagine it coming out better than this. Fantastic job!

That's a whopper of a good photo.
And an excellent catch. Were you a basketball player in your halcyon youth?
Congratulations on your ribbon and on retaining your expensive camera/lens.

Extra points for having the courage to throw the camera in the air! I thought surely this was done using some sort of tripod contraption :)

Amazing you got it so perfectly centered, with the perfect expression. It's what I go through when I create my ghost images, although in those I'm tossing the cloth, not the camera :)

There have been several apps that encouraged this sort of behavior with an iPhone. They have been banned or don't exist any more. Such a shame. GOod to see someone doing it with something even more expensive!!! LOL

dumb app?! No way LOL

Well this is definitely an awesome looking entry.. However, is it considered a selfie if you're not holding the camera..?

I like the lighting here and how nice and green the grass looks.
