This picture is rather complicated, actually. It started its life as a colour shot from my D60. Then I converted it to black and white using primarily the blue and red channels. But this led to the iris being too dark. So I copied the iris to a new layer, and converted it to black and white using the green and red channels.

Finally, I wanted to sharpen the image, and got the idea to sharpen the iris more than the rest of the image. I also darkened it a great deal more than the rest of the picture (Hey - Post-shot adjustments were legal for this contest, right? ;).

Personally, I am quite happy with the results.

great detail. The placement of the iris in the frame seems unbalenced to me. Perhaps having the iris centered or otherwise cropping just a little wider might help. 8

I love the extremely shallow DOF. Gorgeous black and white too. I've seen a lot of eye photos on this site (I bet someone will do it in the cliche challenge too!) but this is definitely one of the nicer ones.

This is a very nice macro of the eye. The use of B&W was a good choice. I really like the detail of the pupil. Great work, top 10 in my opinion.

I knew there would be an eye shot as a window to the soul this week. I didn't know, however, it would be this good of an eyeshot! I like that you chose black and white. The detail and clarity is amazing to me. I'd be interested in what equipment you used, lighting, etc. Great job! 9

This is a good shot. Light is a tad bit harsh for my taste.

Nice photo, I like the thinking outside the box, but this image has been over used.

I really don't like closeups of eyes like this. That aside, I would have been happier to see an actual reflection of a window in the eye. I know about the whole "window to the soul" thing, but in the case of this challenge, I am leaning toward a more traditional interpretation.

very very crisp shot with good lighting

Very nice macro. It may have been more compelling with some kind of reflection that played on the window/door theme or more emotion in the eye.

I don't care for this pic. It's too close and not appealing either, part of which may be the too close. I knew someone would do this for this challenge - Inspzil

Well, at least this is outside the literal box ... and a nice crispy eye shot. Well done, but knowing how people vote here, I'm afraid this would do better in the Cliche challenge.

Nice clean eyeshot, beautiful iris. One that is nice to look at for a change.
