Retake of a shot my wife took many years ago when my other kids were younger. Just had to try it again. Slightly different, but I think it works well. It's shot in a tunel that leads to a play tent. Great fun! Hand held using built in flash.

A 1-3?! Give me a break!! In the way I judge...everything is a 5...average. This has great focus, depth and color. Skin tones look good with the red tube coloring it. I would have given it a 6-7. I am still trying to figure out peoples method of judging a photo.

Critique Club critique by Tim Jensen

My first impression was that the skin tones were too red but after considering it I think that the coloring is appropriate because the child is inside a red tube where the whole overall color is red. Red is much more natural a color then, say, green would have been. The blue shirt is also effective in creating a nice contrast and emphasizing the boy's face and hands.

I think the cropping is also pretty effective. I might have cropped the top of the head a little to match the cropping on the arms. The extra space at the top is not necessary. The tighter cropping reveals more detail and increases the intimacy while excluding any distracting elements.

Somehow the lighting, in the way that it is a bit harsh, adds to the natural, playfulness of the photo as apposed to an evenly lit studio type shot that would appear too contrived and setup.

There really isn't much of significance that I would change with this photo. The composition, framing, bright colors and lighting, and big smile all add up to a very striking and emotional photo. It clearly meets the challenge and technically it looks solid. I think it is a very good photo.

Nice work - he has a wonderful smile. Personally I would have included all of his arms at the bottom of the shot. Also the photo looks like it has two much red in it - perhaps reflection from the red tube though - a little work in photoshop might produce a more natural skin tone. I really like this photo though - well done.

Great expression!!! Nice lighting. Interesting location (why didn't they have those when I was a kid???) Only picky point.... I can see the end of the tube - I'd like that cropped out if possible. Cute kid!!

I like the red of the tube he's in but the red carried over to his skin a little too much. Nice shot however! 7.

Love this photo! The expression is priceless. I love the concept, what is he inside of? I don't know how you did the lighting but, although a little dark, it is still a great photograph.

Happy indeed : )
The tube appears to have given his skin a bit of a red cast, but it does provode a great frame for the shot. Only the dark area behind his head spoils it a little. Focus & exposure are great, as is the subject ... what a pose!

Really good expression. I don't care much for the red cast on the face, but that is just personal preference.

Can't look at his grin without laughing myself. I love when kids are silly and get that busting with glee look!!!! Good capture.

This photo is very cute! I like how the background is in a tunnel. And the image on the child's face matches very well with the setting in which he is placed!! Good job.

Very nice portrait. Everything in this photo leads me right back to this child's eye's and smile. Nicely done. The red tunnel and blue sweater/top complement each other, and I just love seeing one "flash" in the child's eye which is the normal, compared to the usual two or three that you sometimes see in most professional sittings. Nice sharp photo, sharp colors, very appealing.

This is a nice shot. I think if you would have taken it in portrait form it would have more of an impact.
