Yep, I have photographed bugs for 30+ years and know all too well how they don't take direction!

I really struggled voting on this image. Whilst the sharpness, light and colours were exceptional I found the one out of focus stamen over the hoverfly's eye distracting. Well done on the HM.

You really succeeded at bringing the viewer into a new, miniature world. Impressive technical and aesthetic achievement! Congrats

Yeah, I will never understand giving a 1 ever unless it did not even come close to meeting the challenge.

Congratulations on your HM! That stamen cost you a ribbon, I fear.

(I'd have cloned it out.)

My highest rated photo ever! Thanks all for the comments! This is a photo stack of 8 photos using the Helion Focus Bracket Tube, a tripod, and remote. Then the photos were merged using Helicon Focus. Here is an image for scale from last year. I was not photo stacking last year.

Phenomenal macro, and one of my favorite wildflowers.

Wondering if this is focus stacked. Absolutely superb.

This is splendid, so crisp and sharp. Maybe just a tiny bit of softening on that right petal to counteract the sharpness of the stamen and wasp? But then again, what do I know, I have never shot anything this great! 9

Unbelievably sharp and vivid! Must be some mighty lens you have there. Shame about the stamen at front, but some things are hard to avoid.
