Carefully done, indeed. Feels a touch over-posed for me: there's little realistic about tthe placing of the pencil, nor the hyper-sharpness of it. I get what you were heading for, I think, but for me it turns it into a simply posed image, rather than anything particularly communicative.

This was the first thumbnail to catch my eye. I really like it. It is well-focused and good choice of dof. It definitely has the feel of "time passing." However, there is something about the composition that keeps me from giving it top scores. I wish I knew enough about composition to tell you what it is! Sorry I can't be more concrete in suggesting an alternative. I particularly don't like the point of the pencil facing out. Perhaps someone with more art background can help more. Anyway, it's still one of my favorites. :D

Revised:
Nicely done micro but the arrangements of each item is confusing and un-natural. The way you set your shot up draws my eye to the very sharp pencil. I think my eyes should be drawn towards the crossword puzzle. I believe you could have arranged the pencil in a better way. With that said you have a good photo here. You cropped well, good micro, nice dof, and good focus. Good Job!
