3rd December 2019 ..
there have been bush fires raging on the entire east coast of Australia .. other places have been impacted but none as badly as the east coast .. which is where I live ..

the fires have been going on for weeks and taken a terrible toll on our wildlife .. koalas especially losing so much of their habitat that they will be put on the endangered list if they aren't there already ..

I left my home as the burragorang fire was so close and out of control and the wind was bringing it closer and closer every hour ..

this image brings to mind the feeling of those bush fires .. with the colours and shapes ..

it's not only the people and animals that lose their lives in these catastrophic bush fires but insects as well ..

these little hoverflies (or possibly bee flies) are probably dead now as they have been backburning where I walk on the firetrail in anticipation of the burragorang fire coming thru .. that particular fire has consumed 113,000 hectares (279,229.081 acres) already and that's just the tip of the iceberg ..

"The scale of the area burned by the fires is immense, with at least 2,700,000 hectares (6,671,845 acres) burned or currently burning in NSW and Queensland."

it's an unprecedented disaster here in Australia ..

anyway .. i often think of the impermanence of life .. especially when i photograph insects .. and also how they can get a bad rap ..
hoverflies and bee flies .. along with many other insects .. are wonderful for our ecology as they are pollinators .. much like bees .. :)

ps .. i couldnt create realistic shadows for the flying hoverflies .. and dont worry i tried ... !! ..
bit of a bummer .. :(

edit after rollover..
thankyou so much for the ribbon as it's a very meaningful image for me ..

i wrote about the fires before it went in for voting but since then they got a whole lot worse ..

Wow this is really awesome! It has a lot to keep me interested, wonderful colours and shadows and very unusual flies.

Didn’t get round to voting on this challenge, but this one stood out on my first view, unique composition and love the fiery colours.
Congratulations.
