A local abandoned house, decrepit and falling down. I've shot it before for challenges but not recently. Energy is everywhere, it comes off of everything and leaves a trace of it behind even after many years; I explore places like this to pick up on that energy. I sense tremendous sadness and waste in many houses like this. In the room beyond the floor is still littered with books and magazines. Someone used to love to read, once.

Thanks for all the great and insightful comments - glad I'm not the only one who felt and saw the sadness and despair here.

Regarding suggestions to move the barrel and place items atop it....no. When I enter a structure like this, especially a house,I shoot it as I find it. I always do my best to minimize any kind of signs of intrusion, out of respect for the property. That way, should anyone see my tracks in the snow and follow them to see if any damage was done, then they won't see anything amiss.

Also, in the interests of safety, I stay close to walls and doorways and only venture into rooms if they have a fairly sound floor underneath! The floor in the room visible beyond this one is rotted through, so it's safe to assume that this floor is also potentially unsafe.

many congratulations on your blue ribbon and for an excellent take on the challenge ..
its interesting that you felt the energy .. as a photo i dont see it like that .. but i wasnt there .
ppl move on . and the things they leave behind are often just things ..
there's so much more than material possessions for us to value in this life ..
but thats just my take atm ..
dont get me wrong . this is a wonderful statement .. abandoned for sure .. :)

past life for sure .
it really brings it home that a lot of the things we really value .. of a material nature .. maybe not as important as we think ..
as time moves on and our lives evolve will we value that 'thing' that means so much to us now at some future time .. often not at all .
this is a great image btw .. :)

Great job on the colors and texture. When I see abandoned buildings, I think of all the lives who lived there and the history surrounding the structure. 10

That formerly cheery color on the walls makes this sadder.
