Very bad lighting. Loks like you flashed it at night and didn't let the flash fill the subject. Longer shutter, smaller aperature could've fixed it.

Not sure why you took this at night.

I think I would have prefered this in the daytime with some more color in it--like against a blue sky.

The subject of this image just does not do a lot for me.

Would you hang this picture up in your house? That question being answered why take a picture of a telephone pole yes it is from the ground up but that is about it. Dosen't do anything for me.

A telegraph pole isn't the most interesting of subjects. It looks like you've used an internal flash here, which is ok as long as you know what it's limits are. The flash has barely reached the top of the pole where the main interest of the photo lies. If your flash did fully reach the top of the pole, it may have been better to zoom in to eliminate the brightness at the bottom.

I like the composition. Glad you didn't try to match the power lines to the edge of the frame. The fact that it was done at nighttime really sets it apart from other telephone pole photos and makes it a bit less busy. I think I'd like to see it in black and white though. The odd greenish cast at the bottom and the browner elements on top detract a bit.

Angle is nice. The white cable and the background is a little too washed out, with the top of the picture a little too dark.

You need some lighting at the top of the pole. As it is, your flash is not designed for that distance and so the bottom is washed out with too much light, while the top lies in darkness.

I wish this had more consistancy in lighting.

Probably should have waited for daylight on this one. Too dark at the top, too bright at the bottom.

overexposure at the base, did this shot have to be taken at night?
04/29/2002 05:17:00 PM
good example of from the ground up, but otherwise boring
04/29/2002 03:38:00 PM
Kinda underexposed !!!

A recurring theme in this week's challenge... Interesting illumination.

Good angle. Too bad the flash just wasnt up to the task aye?
04/29/2002 11:29:00 AM
maybe if this was done during the day. I would have liked to see more detail.
04/29/2002 10:27:00 AM
the flash is too strong.
04/29/2002 09:10:00 AM
This is a good interpreation of the challenge. I think a day time shot would have appealed a little more to me. The flash is focusing the attention on the bottom part of this pole and distracting a little from its height....
04/29/2002 08:32:00 AM
Don't know that the flash really works for this, you'd need a more powerful flash to illuminate the whole thing.
04/29/2002 03:18:00 AM
I think the flash took away from this picture.. perhaps a longer exposure instead would have been of better benefit. On the other hand, if your camera can't do that... not a bad job done..

What happened to the lines? Do you know why they're jaggy?
