i originally shot this on a bright sunny day, but because of the angle i couldn't see and none of the horizons were straight -- but i liked it -- so the next day, which was rainy/foggy, i took some more and got a straight horizon. While the overall impact was better on the sunny day, the ball lying there, all alone on such a dreary day made me think of the children indoors, not playing with it, and with the neighborhood kids all inside and it WAS a quiet day... |

hmm...a ball. Seems a bit out of place. |

I love the misty trees. The toy? doesn't work well with the picture. I think it would've done better off without it. The lush green grass, and blooming trees work well enough. |

I accidently hit the 1 button before I could write a comment, I meant to rate it much higher. This is a nice idea with decent execution. Good DOF, color, and composition. Nice work. |

Very pretty pic -- and while I think you do need some kind of foreground focal element, the ball (?) seems so out of place. Maybe that's what you were going for, if so great. If not, maybe a large rock in its place? |

I love the composition and the muted colors with the bright object in the foreground (what is it?). The more I look at this one, the more I like it |

The wet weather makes the saturated colors on the ball pop like crazy! Seems like it's slightly ahead of the field of focus, but that doesn't bother me much. Fantastic detail on the trees in the background, and perfectly exposed. Top 3 for me. |

Beautiful composition. Makes you want to run into the frame and kick that ball But then, I'd have to go into those woods................................... |

i like how the ball brings colour to the otherwise serene treescape (if sucha word exists) |

oh man. get rid of the ball (colorful thing) raise the angle just a little and I LOVE this picture. |

Such a pretty picture. I wish the sky and details on the trees were not washed out. IMO (and it is just my opinion) The bright colored item on the ground is rather loud for a photo that is a "quiet day". Good job on meeting the challenge. |

Very nice mood created here. Though the ball is perhaps a bit too bright for the photo. It kind of overpowers everything. Still, very nice work! |

personal opinion- I would have liked the picture w/o the ball in it but it is still breath-taking |

i really like this photo. the contrast between the hazy day and the green grass is beautiful. |

On preview I thought the ball was an Easter egg. I like the misty texture and saturated greens. Is the ball a little out of focus? |

A higher Fstop or whatever might have helped focus... but overall its appealing. I really like the color contrast and combo. Good job. This one is going to be my new desktop picture for a couple hours. |

I don't feel that the ball is necessary here. The atmosphere created by the trees and the sky can stand alone |

I like the hazy sky and the rich green grass, though it could have been in better focus with the macro feature, if you have one. Same with the colorful object in the foreground. You did a good job of getting a sense of up with the tall trees, though I fear it might not be whip-lash inducing enough of an UP angle to please the crowd. |

i think a little closer to the ball and a little more angle upwards would've helped this shot. |

Great colours, great mood, great framing... the ball gives this photo a sense of narrative, while the mist in the beautiful, delicate trees creates a mood of contemplation. |

I saw this photograph last nite late and i have been thinking a lot about it. First of all, i like the challenge interpretation. The mood of this shot is great with the fog. the depth of field and overall composition of this photo is very nice. The toy ball in this photograph disturbs me somewhat. It does add a spash of color to a photo that needs no additional help with color. I'm not sure what it's purpose is in the photograph or in supporting the challenge topic. I love the overall shot here but I would love to see it again without the ball and I would love to hear your interpretation of the purpose of the ball in this shot. good work!! |

good example of from the ground up, i like the fog in the trees |

Very tranquil and I like the mix of monochromatic trees/sky with the very green grass and the splash of colour in the ball. Focal depth is a bit out, maybe need to consider focusing in the middle, rather than on the background, to get more depth of field (hyperfocal setup)/ |

I thought this picture would be boring, then I scrolled down and saw the ball. Love the contrast of the color in the bottom and the black and white on top. Very nice! |

The toy makes a nice addition to this shot. I probably would have shot w/o it, but I think I'd have been wrong, I like what it adds. |

closing down the aperature would have given a better depth of field |
