I found this pine seed cone very interesting,. Its shape is very contradictive to the surrounding round stones, but their color are completely the same.

I just heard a report today about how they can now make petrified wood artificially in just a few days ... maybe you discovered a discarded prototype : )

The subject feels too centered

what an interesting image. pretty wild how the pinecone's coloring blends in with the rocks. i hope this is not being overlooked in this monster-sized challenge, and that you are getting some good comments and suggestions. if not, please don't take it personally; maybe just consider it a starting point for the rest of the year. good luck in this and the challenges to come!

Well stone, shell, or petrified pinecone this image is very effective. I really like the way the colouring of your 'stone' is so similar to the background, yet it is completely distinguishable in spite of the relatively deep DOF due to it's disparate shape.

This is about the 15th time this image has come back up for me to vote and in my quest to comment on every photo, I keep skiping this image...Well enough is enough...
Unfortunately I am not overy fond of this image. In colour, it is a very dull picture and I think it would have appeared better in B&W. Nothing in this picture captures my attention. Sorry.

Are you sure it's a stone? Looks like is wood or a pinecone or something. Sort of uninteresting for me. The similar colors between the subject and rocks makes it blend together too much.
